So, some know I'm in Afghanistan right now. But, before I left I started to help with prepping the car. Since I've been gone I got a few more updates too. In another month, I'll be able to clean up the thread, but for now, I figure you guys may want a little car porn. Sorry, I can only link the linked pics, and attach the others. (I cannot view photobucket links, work computer settings). if someone is so inclined feel free to download and attach the photobucket ones.

What filling rod did you use for welding the chromoly tubing?

couldn't tell you the filler, but it's standard DOM not chromoly. The old advantage of chromoly seems to be disappearing with sanctioning bodies moving towards standard tube dimensions no matter the material.

f*** yeah. This used to be my daily driver.
(So was 195/2000, which is almost similarly caged and should become a rally car, too.)

Thought that was yours. Didn't realize it went so far east.

yup. I was in NM on business and got to see the car in person. The stars aligned, and KTM was such an easy guy to work with, that I was able to pay and arrange shipping etc. from the East Coast. And until wrap it around a tree, the rest will be a long and proud history /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good or bad, I'll do my best to keep the forum updated with race results. We're new at rally, so hopefully the trend is an upward one over time.

Good for you getting involved in rally. It's a great sport with great people. Stick with NASA events and you can't go wrong. You'll spend less money, have more fun, and be more appreciated. Lots of really good guys out there in your neck of the woods.

Jealous of the build, but I have no desire to do that to my vr4. I would much rather cage up a Subaru or honda with our low numbers.

Please keep us updated.

For anyone wondering, I'm not dead.

I ordered a venturi I hope to modify into a usable 34mm restrictor.

I'm also a bit more motivated to get working on the suspension. Which brings me here. On a rally site, someone has made reference to Outlander rear subframe, and rest of suspension bits being able to swap into the GVR4. Anyone heard of this and know the details? he specifically says it works with Evo I-III parts (diffs I guess), and the whole setup is stronger and proven in rally in a GVR4.

If anyone has info on that, it'd be a BIG BIG help. Once I order custom coilovers, I'm stuck using whatever I started with. If outlander gives more travel in the control arms etc. then it's win/win.
