Shifter adjustment?

I rebuilt my shifter with new bushings a few months ago, but now if I shift under harder acceleration, I seem to get quite a "chunking" into second especially, but a bit in 4th as well. Fluid is good and recently changed. It almost feels like I am getting too much travel.

Will an adjustment perhaps improve this? Making the cable shorter maybe? I have never had to adjust one and just looking for some advice/suggestions.

Thanks.

Can't find the old link on the interwebs, but did you move the shifter plate (the main base) from where it was?

If you center the shifter and remove the pins from the shifter cables and lift them up, they should pretty much just fall back on the post where they came from. If they are too long or too short, you can adjust them, but first you might want to make sure you didn't move the whole base from where it used to be. Not sure how to do that. Look for a clean line of fresh paint I guess.

I didn't move anything. I will look at your suggestion. Just thinking perhaps someone may have adjusted them previously since the bushings were really shot. Or the cables are just stretched perhaps, as before me this car was not on the road for 8+ years.
