I can check my timing without taking off the timing belt cover correct? Line up the cam gear marks and line the crank pulley mark with the "T" on the timing belt cover?

What timing are you checking? Ignition timing or to make sure your timing belt is timed correctly. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

From the sounds of it you want to make sure the belt is on correctly. In that case, yeah. The method you mentioned will work. It will not, as BM said, tell you if the ignition timing is correct.
