woooo!!!

side note about the 5-bolt gusset plate you messed with for awhile. you can actually grind off a slight portion of it, so that you don't need to remove it to R&R the transmission. i did this on my because-race-car-1g that likes to spit up driveline parts /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif

Quoting matt92vr4:
OK, I decided on a 2G/1G combo. I'm pretty excited about the increased c/r. I always thought that my car was a little laggy for the stock turbo. Tonight I got my new BS bearings installed and was messing around a little. I took a closer look at my stock turbo and found out another reason why my turbo was so laggy! These pics are with the flapper all the way closed.

Now I'm supper stoked to get my new pistons and 16g! I think this thing is going to run very nice in a few months! Thanks for looking.

Hey what brand pistons did you end up going with?

I ended up going with the oem 2g pistons 1g rod option from thedsmgraveyard.com. I think they are npr.

Hey check this link out click it has some pics of the 2g pistons I ordered but did yours come with some grey coating on the pistons. I’m just wondering because i ordered a set of pistons for a different car and the pistons came in a yellow NPR box not like the one I ordered which say Nippon Racing and pistons look totally different.

Did the ones you order look like this.

No mine didn't look like that. Mine looked like stock Mitsu pistons.

When I asked Josh from DSMgraveyard why it was taking so long he said they just received a bad batch of pistons and I didn't want the ones they had. I asked him exactly what was wrong with them and he said something about cracked skirts. He was kinda fumbling around a little so I don't really think he knew what he was talking about or he was making up a story. After looking at your link, I bet they are having knockoffs made in China and they got a bad batch. They probably come in the white boxes. Can you tell if that writing is Chinese or Japanese? That was back in February, how are those pistons working out for you?

My pistons were already pressed onto the rods when I got them so I didn't get to see the boxes. They were wrapped in FEDEX bags. Keeping my fingers crossed...

hell if i know Chinese Japaneses writing all looks the same to me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rofl.gif" alt="" /> really warped in fed ex bags that’s a shame considering there critical engine parts.

This is the link where I purchased my set. Honestly it's a bit confusing. The title says NPR 2G piston. The picture shows Mitsu emblems on the pistons but reminds you that they are not OEM parts. I kinda wish I went with the EVO9 pistons instead. Oh well...
click

Here is the only pic I can find of my pistons. This is after I removed them from the FEDEX bags that they were wrapped in.

Put the radiator and coolant in. Ran her up to temps. No leaks, no smoke, no bad noises lol. Buttoned her up and drove to the car wash!

Looking through my picture folder it looks like it took 12 partial days of working on this to complete the project

Mileage 164,565 (for my records). Anyone else ever get nervous to drive your Mitsu after a build? I am lol. Driving it to work tomorrow and dropping off the kids at school. Fingers crossed hehe.

Got 120 miles on her. So far everything is great. Running 10psi. The s16g spools so much faster than the 14 b with cracked housing. This thing is a blast! I love this car. Can't wait to install my exhaust, ,fmic, fuel, and ecmlink!

1000 mile update. Everything is going great. I'm running 10psi wastegate pressure. I have ECMLINKv3 waiting to install but I probably won't have time for that until late this year or 2014. So I decided to temporarily buy a eprom ecu with a chip burnt to my specs. The car ran perfect with the stock ecu and injectors and I was a little scared to install my 1000cc injectors and the chip. I decided to go ahead and do it two days ago. With the new ECU the car runs even better! Absolutely perfect! I can't believe how well it runs with the larger injectors. I opened up the stock computer and found a bad spot (see pics). Maybe this was a problem!

Thanks to Big D for the chip and new ECU. My plans are to run this until I have time to install and tune the ECMLINK. Then I will compare the 1/4 times of the 1G MAF and speed density.

Current mods:
2g pistons
EVO 8 valves
EVO 8 springs, retainers, lifters
S16G turbo
gutted cat
K&N drop in
crushed 1g BOV
Curtis shifter
poly motor mounts
BS delete
eprom ecu with chip
1000cc PTE injectors
1g shift boot
rock'n floor mats w00tw00t
2g exhaust mani
2g o2 housing
autometer boost gauge
ARP head studs
ARP rod bolts
MLS head gasket

Mods sitting in the garage waiting to install:
Walbro 255
3" downpipe
3" vibrant muffler
3" tubing to make exhaust
EVO 9 intercooler
DSMLINK v3 with SD and all the goodies
eibach 1" drop
hotwire kit
ss brake lines

Mods I need to buy soon:
4 bolt rear end
wideband
clutch to hold the potential power /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looks good, actually regarding the oil pan bolts. Their are two that need to be shorter not 1.

Thanks guys, I was starting to wonder if anyone reads this thread lol.

Yes, two short bolts, thanks for correcting that. I need to go up to my post and fix it too.

2000 mile update. Everything is going well. My office moved to the next town so my daily commute increased to about 60 miles. I didn't use to care about gas mileage but now I'm keeping track. I got 310 miles out of the last tank and about 26mpg. When I had the stock injectors and bad ECU I was only able to get about 225 miles per tank. Needless to say I'm thrilled with the fact I doubled the injector size and increased my MPG's.

My dad's Model A has been taking up the wrenching spot in my garage since December. That is going home to his house this weekend and will open up room to wrench on the Galant again. Maybe I'll get the exhaust and/or intercooler on in March.

I have a free day to mess around with the car and try to get something accomplished. I measured up my EVO9 intercooler to get an idea of the pipes and couplers I will need to buy. I also measured up my exhaust to see what else I need to order to get that finished.

I tried to install my walbro fuel pump about a year ago with no luck. At that time I was unable to loosen the gas line under the car. I've been shooting PB Blaster on it occasionally for the last year. Today I tried again and it loosened right up! Awesome!

So after breaking 3 of the 6 8mm studs off of the tank I removed the pump assembly. Denso 195130-2020. Best I can tell it's a non-turbo 3000GT pump. Does anyone have any additional info on this? The flow rates are terrible for this pump! Fortunately I've only been running 10psi!

I bought the car from the original owner who is now an older guy. The best i can tell the stock pump must have died at some point and his mechanic dropped in this POS.

Going back out to install the Walbro. I'm gonna have to drill out the broken studs on the gas tank. Not looking forward to that.

Old pump...

Finished up the walbro install and up'ed the boost to 14psi. She's loving it. After inspecting my exhaust in detail I noticed that the PO had a 2" crush bent exhaust welded on the the last half and a ghetto muffler. I'm really excited now to get the 3" mandrel bent exhaust on. That 2" crush bent must really be holding things back.

Headed out to build the exhaust. I'm really bad with geometry so this might take awhile lol. Measured the DB's in the car with downpipe only, windows up. All measurements in neutral because I'm too old to drive around like this anymore.

engine off: 30db
engine idle 1000rpm: 60db
engine steady 3000rpm: 55db
two step 5500rpm: 62db

When I'm done (hopefully today) I'll post the results and also exactly what I used, how many, how much$, and where I bought it. Maybe this info will be helpful to someone in the future.

UPDATE: Well I ran out of welding gas so I'm done probably until next weekend. I got her all tacked up. So far I'm really happy with the outcome.

Finished the exhaust last night. I'm really happy with it. It's much quieter than I expected, which is nice. There does not seem to be any annoying drones. I can still hear my kids talking in the backseat lol.

Please excuse my less-than-perfect welds and the dirty undercarriage.
