  1. Problem replacing shifter cables

Found 'em and got them out! Thanks! Now, is there any trick for getting that damn rubber boot off or pulling it out through the firewall?
  2. Problem replacing shifter cables

I already have the center console off, but I didn't see any bolts inside. Lemme check again.
  3. Problem replacing shifter cables

I'm in the process of swapping out my snapped shifter cable on my 90 Galant GSX. I almost have the old ones out, but for the life of me I can't figure out what to use to get the two nuts off that hold the bracket to the firewall. After fumbling around with a 12mm and 13mm socket, I realized that...
  4. mr.mitsu

Bought some shifter cables from him. He had them in the mail right away and was exactly what I needed. Would definitely buy off him again in the future!
  5. Shifter cable for '90 GGSX

It seems my one shifter cable went out today and in my looking it doesn't seem to be an easy part to find. What I'm curious about is if any other models of Galants or DSMs use the same shifter cables or where I may be able to find them relatively cheap. Thanks in advance!
  6. Parking brake cable for 90' GSX

My left side parking brake cable has frozen and I am having a hard time trying to find a new one. Everywhere local can't get ahold of them. Even RockAuto has most of them missing (except one, but with shipping I'm looking way more than I want to spend). So what I'm curious about is if I were to...
  7. How many splines?

Quoting brunoboy: thanks for the info, lets say i have a 22 spline t-case. and i bought a 23 spline tranny. how does that work?Like number3 posted, just pop off the end of the tranny and swap the shafts. I ran into the same issue thinking all W5M31 tranny's were 22 spline, which I didn't...
  8. Clutch Replacement

Remember to remove the transfer case too. First time I did a clutch and transmission replacement on my car, we sat there for like an hour trying to figure out why the transmission wouldn't come off until we finally realized you had remove the t-case first
  9. 4th gear issue

First off, this is on my W5M31 transmission in my GGSX. Whenever my car is in 4th gear and I am giving the car no gas I feel a vibration in the gear stick. Whenever I give the car even the slightest amount of gas, it goes away, but as soon as I take my foot off the pedal it comes back. The best...
  10. I finally made it here...

Quoting citymunky: BTW does anybody know what grille is that? (The white one)Looks to me like a 90' GGSX grill with the emblem removed and painted white. Here's the grill on my 90' GGSX:image
  11. IP address

    This is what it shows for you crankwalk: IP : 97.127.93.145 Country code : US Country name : United States Region name : Minnesota City : Farmington Zip/postal code : 55024 Latitude : 44.6272 Longitude : -93.1168 Timezone : 0 GmtOffset : 0 DstOffset : 0
  12. 90 awd trans yes or no?

Or you could just pop the end off the transmission and swap the output shafts so your transfer case works like I did
  13. If you think your trans sucks, check the shifter cables.

How do you adjust the shifter cables? I am not completely sure of what's involved with it.
  14. Clutch Switch

It really makes me wonder why they would make that part out of rubber when they know it's gonna dry rot and when it does, it's going to stop the car from being able to turn on. Really pissed me off when it happened, considering I was in a huge line for the new Indiana Jones movie when it...
  15. Clutch Switch

I just stuck a small nut and bolt through there when mine rotted and fell out a few years back. Been fine since.
  16. Sold!!!!!

Daaamn do I wish I lived close to you. I'd so pick this up. Good luck with sale!
  17. Torque Solution Billet Shifter cable and Drive shaft bushing kits - Get them

Just bought the shifter and driveshaft bushings off tunersnation. When I replaced my transmission the other day I noticed that the driveshaft bushings were practically falling apart and the shifter bushings were dryrotted like hell. Figured it'd be a good investment. I'll let you guys know how...
  18. 1gcrazy

I bought what was supposed to be a rebuilt Galant GSX transmission from his partout a few months back. It took me about 3 weeks to get it. After arriving it looked to be in good shape, but took me about 2 months before I got it bolted up to my car. I ran into some problems with bolting it up and...
  19. My galant gsx

Quoting Dbossman: ^^My comment was towards the car.I have a 90 Galant GSX and I wish she looked as good as that.
  20. My galant gsx

    Whose a sexy girl?
  21. Swapping transmission output shafts

Yeah, I figured I'd ask on here first instead of pounding away on it. Like I said, I don't want to damage the tranny.
  22. Swapping transmission output shafts

As some may know, I bought a new transmission not know it was a 23 spline instead of 22. Some people in my previous thread said to just remove the output shaft out of the old transmission and swap them. I attempted to get it out of my old one but it would not budge. I removed the end cover of...
  23. GGSX on ebay with active suspension?

I sense something fishy. The first pic is definitely a Galant GSX. The Galant GSX however did not have the ECS. No Galants in the US had it as far as I can tell. Like a previous poster said, the VIN is for a Galant GS which is nothing like the GSX. And there is a VR4 picture in there.
  24. Converting all wheel drive to front.

Okay, thanks for all the help guys.My last question is something I posted earlier, but nobody answered. If when the transmission was rebuilt and the gear ratios were changed, would this not cause issues with the rear diff once I got it all hooked up?
  25. Converting all wheel drive to front.

How do you go about doing this? Is it possible to do it with the transmission on the vehicle? I already have it bolted up and really don't feel like taking it off again.
  26. Converting all wheel drive to front.

I have another question now. I am not sure now if the transmission that was sold to me had the gears changed when it was rebuilt. If the gear ratios are different in the transmission, could that not damage the rear diff, since the transfer case has a 1:1 ratio?
  27. Converting all wheel drive to front.

Are you 100% positive on this after I re-edited my post with the specifics?
  28. Converting all wheel drive to front.

Okay then, another question. If I get the 23 spline t-case, is there any issue in hooking up my driveshaft from my 22 spline setup or would I have to get a new driveshaft also?EDIT: Let me give you a little more detail on the situation. This car is a '90 Galant GSX. The transmission I bought...
  29. Converting all wheel drive to front.

Quoting TylerAdamson: You would need a viscous coupler eliminater which is about $100 +/- or you could just get the proper tcase for $75+/-Well, if I were to switch to a 23 spline transfer case, then I would also need to get a new rear diff, because the gears are different, correct?
  30. Converting all wheel drive to front.

Well, it's not a VR4, it's a GGSX. The problem is that my GGSX is my only form of transportation and I went to replace the transmission with one I bought off a member here. He claimed it would be a direct bolt up, but when it got rebuilt, they turned it into a 23 spline instead of 22 and he...
  31. Converting all wheel drive to front.

Just a quick question, if I were to not use a transfer case and cover up where the transfer case bolts up to the tranny and block off the rear diff, would that cause any problems? It seems to me like it would just be like driving like a FWD. The rear diff would just be free spinning, same as the...
  32. Clutch question?

Quoting AnotherNewb: Can't take the trans and Xcase off together... Tried it one time... Oil pan gets in the way...Your first time shouldn't be rushed. Take your time and learn. Then, the next time feels more natural. You were right. Except, it's not the oil pan that gets in the way...
  33. Clutch question?

Luckily, my grandfather who owned his own mechanics shop for 40 years has a transmission jack so we don't have to do any real liftingI think the main problem is that the rust is being such a pain. A lot of the nuts are taking us like 5 minutes minimum to get out because of that. I managed to...
  34. Clutch question?

It didn't look like it gets in the way. Maybe the GGSX and GVR4 are different in that regards. I'll take a look on Monday when I go to work on it again.
  35. Clutch question?

Well, I looked around this morning and found out that the GVR4 clutch is actually slightly larger diameter compared to the GGSX. Not sure if the VR4 one will work, but I found someone that sells the GGSX ones locally, so it shouldn't be a problem. Also, how long on average does it take you guys...
  36. Clutch question?

I need to replace the clutch in my '90 Galant GSX. Are the clutches the same as the ones in the VR-4? Thanks in advance!
  37. What's the dumbest......

Instead of taking my exhaust to a professional to get the leak fixed, I just unbolted it and gave it to an acquaintance who welded a new piece of pipe in for $30. However, he welded the catalytic converter on uneven, so I have to take speed bumps slow or else it will hit. Long story short, I hit...
  38. Why don't we have a Oil Pressure gauge?

I can also confirm that 90 GGSX's have the dual color dash in the US.
  39. Lower timing belt cover - surprise!

I had the crank pulley separate at the middle ring a few months back. I had no idea something was wrong, in fact I did the timing belt about a month beforehand and noticed nothing wrong with the pulley. Anyway, when it went bad, boy did it make a bad noise at low RPMs. It took a nice chunk out...
  40. FS: 1991 White GVR4 #1211 Pittsburgh, PA $3800 - SOLD-

Grah! Such a nice Galant so close to me. Wish I had the cash to buy it. Good luck with sale!
  41. Is Belize Green only found on GVR4s?

Quoting Muskrat: The noly colors I ever seem to find in junkyards are white, that awful blue color, and maroon...Nordic Blue = amazing color. Also, I agree with painting being the best option. Very rarely will you find a hood with the original paint that would look good enough to use.
  42. rebuilding power window assembly?

Ask Hertz. I know a few months ago he had a box full of the motors apparently. I bought one off him.
  43. Secrets on removing stuck rotors?

Haha I took an acetylene torch to it. They were rusted to hell and back on there. I don't think they had been replaced since the car left the factory.
  44. Secrets on removing stuck rotors?

You can do what I didclick click
  45. Pics of the JDM Fuel Door Installed

Well, lockless or stock, it's still better than what I did for a few months. Since I had the car the lock was frozen and wouldn't turn. Then one day the handle to pop it open inside broke off. So I took a screwdriver and popped the door open, yanked the lock, and drove around with a big hole in...
  46. Help muti proplems!

Quoting DR1665: You know, I feel kinda sorry for this guy, so I took a couple minutes and read his post over and over again until I found myself actually able to understand him. I think this guy might be one of the 2% of Kiwis who don't speak English, so bear with me if I'm wrong. I'm just...
  47. Pics of the JDM Fuel Door Installed

I agree with crankwalk. However, my handle broke off my gas door opener inside the car, so getting a keyless door seems like a bad decision at this point
  48. Starter Not Turning

Quoting toybreaker: Be sure to check the little plastic button on the clutch pedal. If it's broken/missing, the clutch safety interlock/relay won't let the starter operate. There's also a few good ideas in this thread, including a pic or two of some good places to check for power/signal to...
  49. New owner of 624/2000

I noticed that too. I actually kinda like it compared to the normal setup.
  50. Serpentine snap?

Quoting Asbestos:Also, the outer belt is a huge pain in the ass because the alternator's tensioner is difficult to get at with a wrench. Likewise, getting the pulleys back on the waterpump drive is a huge pain, as the outer pulley continually falls off...requires someone without hamfists, if...
