Fuel Pump Relay

Hey Guys,

So I just got back from out of town and I was excited to find my refurbished ECU and DSMlink sitting on the counter waiting to be installed. I got everything on the computer side ready and then went out to the car to re-install the ECU. When installing the ECU the fuel pump relay began switching on and off as I plugged in the middle connector. I've read that this may be caused by something wrong with the ECU but since I just had new caps installed and a general refurbish I find it hard to believe this could be the case. Any ideas of where I should start to find the problem? It wasn't doing this before I sent the ECU to DSMlink.

Working with any eletrical systems the first thing you need to do is disconnect the battery. If you don't you can damage sensitive components.

Battery was disconnected when I removed the ECU as well as before I re-installed it. Any other suggestions?

That's what I was afraid of. Guess it's back to ECM for a second time. Hopefully they get it right this time.

Problem solved! Just decided to power through after hooking the battery up one last time and try to fire up the engine. The engine fired up immediately and the relay magically stopped buzzing. I've started and stopped the engine a number of times so far and the relay hasn't acted up again so I think I'm good to go.

The reason I said that about the battery was due to you stating that the relay was clicking when you were pluging in the middle connector.
Only way that would happen is if you did so with the battery still connected. Not getting on your case just explaining myself.

It's not right or OK, the problematic ECU I had did exactly that ( stopped buzzing after starting ). It flat out should not do that.

Search the "middle" connector, it provides power to the MPI relay ( the one buzzing ). I highly suspect you'll have a battery drain issue. Sent it back for repair.
