im looking into buying some 272's and i was wondering if i would have to upgrade the valve springs and retainers or if i could just keep them stock?

Certain cams you don't need to with like FP2's HKS 272's but other versions of 272's like Kelfords are Soo aggressive that they are basically 280's and HAVE to upgrade the valvetrain.


But to answer your question FP2's would be the best cam for the buck without having to touch the valvetrain.

I've read they are HKS copies which don't need to be shimmed but I think all cams need to be shimmed and have upgraded springs and retainers.

If they are just copies of the HKS 272's then they don't need springs and retainers.

i know they say drop in, but i feel more comfortable with adding springs and retainers ahahaha.

Well it doesn't hurt anything to have em. I'd feel more comfortable having them too but that's only because I'm shooting for over the 500+ wheel mark.

Are you planning on keeping the same redline? How many miles do the current springs have? If you plan on revving out the engine I'd replace the springs.If you have high mileage I'd replace the springs.
