had some engine noise pulled the valve cover head looks mint, HLA arent collapsed no wear or scoring anywhere oil flowed great, pulled the sump (what a proccess that was) find some h beam conrods and forged pistons (makes unknown) got dark so called it a day bore looks fine from what i can see its a 6 bolt no excessive movement anywhere. so problem unsolved at the moment its tap which is why i went straight to the head have some 3g lifters i think ill throw in anyway.

there was no cover on the back of the gearbox so the back of the flywheel is exposed and where the driveshaft plugs to the T case oil has been flicking up on the chassis so must be exccesive movement in the driveshaft

any ideas on this engine noise its hard to explain and i have no video to show, could it be gearbox or driveline, it happens on idle and underload and the gearbox and clutch are not 100% definately used any help would be great guys.

Since you have the oil pan off. Look up inside the block and check your balance shaft bearings.

This seems to be the month for spun/beat out balance shaft bearings..

Check the timing belt tensioner, early failure symptoms could be what you are describing.

Heck if you don't know the age or km's IMO change everything out including water pump.

Might as well take out a loan, pull the motor, and do a full build.

We all know that's what the end result is anyways.

James is right, just get it over with and build it.
