Since i've never really posted about my car...here goes

Nice car and even nicer mod list! What rims are on the car in those pics? They look reminiscent of Mercedes wheels to me.

Well i finally got my head off and More bad news for this car

All the valves were bent (Previous owner had the car off timing)
It seems like they had noticed it, because the block was freshly honed, new piston rings & bearings were there, and the head gasket looked mint. Then i turned to the transmission. A piece had broken off at the point where the transmission bolts at the top most point at the front of the block. will post pictures later when i get the camera

I had a 7 bolt N/T engine lying around so i decided to use the valves from that in the mean time, Now i'm tryin to decide what to do....Rods/pistons, stroker and whether i should buy a 1G tranny and transfercase and get it built. I drive shaft is still missing. There was also quite a bit of hacking done in the wiring which i am sorting out and redoing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bawling.gif

Please, inspect the valve guides carefully before installing fresh valves.

Many times, they crack the extended portion in the port area when the valves bend, as they get side loaded something fierce when the valves are playing paddy-cake with the pistons. I've seen bits of guide break off months later and trash the chamber or they'll go thru the turbo, (kinda, sorta), with predictable results /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

My offer of coming down with any and all parts to help you repair your car still stands.

You've got a really well thought out and considered approach to your build!

Can you wait 'till December, when it's colder here? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rofl.gif

Haha thats my friend with the 2001 VR4....he was thinking sh*t i gotta make my car faster before this thing hits the road.

I'm taking the head out and strip it to get hot tanked. I have one cousin coming for summer....i was hopeing to make him bring cams, a new turbo and my wideband.

I'm just gonna use the parts off the other head and baby the car. Need to have it running so i can get extra income. so i don't mind babying it till i get enough money to finish the job completely. I have considered purchasing a front clip and building that engine from the ground up to be what i want, then just swap it over.

Well at this stage its cleaning and prepping parts...i have about 3 Gals of Degreaser (Was hopeing to get some of this stuff dipped but one of the local machine shops said their dip is broken or watever). Also hit another speed bump as i was prepping the engine. Turns out the overhaul kit i bought locally doesn't exactly fit so i gotta save more money to get an OEM kit with a Mitsu Metal head gasket and just call it a day. Will be considering sending the block and head to be decked and resurfaced.

And onto the Pictures
the trans after first round of degreaser

Thanks for keeping us updated on your progress, it seems to be coming along nicely. Good call on spending a little more to get the OEM parts you need. You won't regret it.

We dropped the sub frame to finish remove the 4WS stuff remaining and to put on the new LSD. We found out one of the brake lines had been broken, so that needs to be repaired before the car can make it back to the road.

Looks good, but I would ditch that power steering cooler. It is not really needed and the lines can be looped easily. Or at least put it behind the intercooler if you are determined to keep it.

Ok...small update, the bottom end is almost finished, just have to deal with the rear main seal, then i can throw on the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate.

Torqued down the rods with the new ARP studs and bolts and rechecked everything, installed the tensioners, water pump, freeze plugs, oil pickup, bottom pan, new front seal, all new gaskets, ARP head studs and new head gasket. With the head, installed valve stem seals, rocker cover gasket, new spark plug seals, oil cap gasket, cam seals etc. Tommorows another day, hopefully i find the valve spring compressor or will have to borrow one so i can finish with the head. Waiting to drop it on and torque it down.

Are you reusing the pulley that is all dented or is a new piece waiting to be installed?
