Is it worth it, and is it safe? Of course I would remove the piston, seals and bleeder valve but are there still too many places for media to get stuck in? I'm really just trying to remove paint.

I found it easier to use a bench grinder with a wire brush on one end to clean the calipers and brackets. I just used some gloves and safety glasses and kept turning the parts to get in all the crevices. I also have a blast cabinet but would much rather use the wire brush.

What if your planning on having the calipers powdercoated? Is a wire wheel still the best?

I was able to get mine down to bare metal with the wire wheel. A blast cabinet will work too if you tape off all of the holes really well and clean them afterwords.
