I'm looking at my rear subframe here. I have the cross members, which I understand but I have two bushings here and I don't know where they go. I could have sworn they went between the cross member and the nut for the subframe, but according to the fsm it looks like the only bushings go between the rear most nut and the subframe. Is that correct?

Cross members? Plural? There are 4 bushing that hold up the entire rear end of the car. The subframe has 2 big bushings that are towards the front of the car. Near where the trailing arms attach. The other two bushings are located in the mustache brace which bolts to the back of the rear differential.

Any other bushings would go in the trailing arms, upper and lower control arms, and the sway bars.

Do you know of any pictures of this? I looked and couldn't find any. And I don't mean any bushings that are actually in the subframe itself, just bushings that go between the subframe and nuts/bolts.

There are no bushings that go under the subframe, just a pair of plates. The 2 you are probably referring to, go on top, between the body and the subframe. They should have a steel backing, which goes on the body side.

I assure you that it goes on the top.
Look on the stopper (bushing), the part number should be on there. It's MB584140, right?
Put it so the steel backing (or rust) goes toward the body.

Not your fault Barnes, I was going by the fsm too. Do they go on the rear most studs? In that case I think I could lower everything down, pull those studs up from the top, put the plates in there then put the stud back in. If it's the front though I'm screwed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If the bushings are marked with the part number I asked about earlier, then they go on top of the forward "arms" of the subframe.
Basically, where the red bushings are in this pic.
