For stock calipers I recommend akebono ceramic pads.

I recommend the Brakebest Ceramic from oreillys, I can get em for like 20 bucks and they are priced at 40 something. The Part number is C530.

+1 based off of what RockAuto offers. I read somewhere that Pep Boys sell Hawk HPS for cheap.

Damn! How does everyone know about the Pepboys pads. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rofl.gif

I work at pep boys currently. And ironically just ordered 2 sets of hawk HPS pads for another VR4 owner and dsm owner. We have about 150 sets left that will fit the 2 pot VR4 brakes. They're 23.10/ set. If anyone wants a set I'll sell them 1 set for $35 (shipping and tracking fees included) or 2 sets for $60.

Do these also fit a 2g with 2 piston calipers?

They're the exact same pad/part number. I've got 2 boxes of VR4 hawk's sitting next to me right now. The VR4 will work on the 3kgt front brakes, 2g 2 pot brakes, and VR4 brakes.

^^ not to mention 1G Diamante (with ABS), Lancer Evo 1-3, 7G Galant VR-4 and some 90s Monteros also. DB1223 is the pad number often used by many pad makers.

I have Stoptechs in my Evo and my Galant brakes better with stock brakes with Porterfield R4-S. I had Porterfields on my STi when I had it, 2g Eclipse and an MX-6. I thought I would try Stoptechs but never again. Porterfields really do make that big of a difference IMO.

+2 I've always had great success with these for non-performance use. Use Porterfields if you need serious stopping power in non-upgraded brakes.
