I know I've had stock mounts go bad on me but this seems ridiculous!

The whole top half flaked to dust got stuck in my alternator belt. It melted and filled all the grooves. What a mess.

Me neither, must either be extremely old or just a manufacturer defect.

Where the hell did rust come from? No, rust does not effect rubber......

I would be more inclined to blame stress. Maybe the engine bay isn't 100% straight.....I've had trouble installing engines in dsm because of previous accidents. Getting the mounts to line up was impossible. I had to use a lot of pry bar....I've had the same mounts in my Galant for 6 years now, no signs of this happening as of yet.....

OR, your other motor mounts are sloppy.

The three other mounts are the same aftermarket stuff. They are all in good shape.
I put in a stocker that I had lying around and it went in with out a pry bar.
Does prothane have a warranty?

When he said flake off and from the pic it looks like the lower part of the mount surround is missing I put two and two together. No sh*t rubber doesn't rust.

Quoting theevozero:

The metal ring that surrounds the rubber bushing. Mount surround. I have seen several that have been rusted bad enough to flake off in layers.
