    Hey. New 6G Owner

Yes, its called the NCT, or National Car test. Roadworthy test, but on this as its pre 1993 there is not CAT (Emissions) test performed. Luckily!!!

    Hey. New 6G Owner

Passed its bi-annual inspection recently, its always a stress as it can be quite onerous to acheive everything on older cars. Good news was all it needed was a small headlight alignment! Thats it for another two years of testing. Couldnt resist a car park moody snap either!

    1993 JDM Mitsubishi Galant VR4. E39-A

The old girl dutifully passed its NCT (Car Roadworthy test) and as its a classic we get two years clearance on a successfull pass. Always a great feeling when it comes out with a clean bill of health.

    Steering Rack. Knocking, rebuild?

So last update on this. I had the rack totally reconditioned and refitted. The knocking has now dissapeared so all good. There is still some very very minute play in it, which is put down to wear and tear on the worm gear. But overall its made a huge difference. No more 'shakey' steering wheel...

My car in all its glory. Is this savable? (Rust)

That looks a beautifull example, you can see the value in that and yet to bring a car to that standard then 19k is cheap!

My car in all its glory. Is this savable? (Rust)

Given the prices I see the USDM Galants selling for, versus the cost of a JDM 6G VR4 import then thats the reason for using the word 'cheap'. Should have used the word 'cheaper' instead.

My car in all its glory. Is this savable? (Rust)

Given how cheap the USDM VR4's are Id say a replacement shell would be your best avenue.

Welcome! Great to see the younger generation appreciating these cars. They are simply awesome and have a aura about them 99% of new cars simply dont have. Enjoy and post some pictures when you get a chance.

    Steering Rack. Knocking, rebuild?

No shop manual here am afraid, any link to it? As an update though, I dropped the rack into a service shop in Dublin two days ago. Steering Rack. Knocking, rebuild?

As a query, if there is play in the Rack, do those washers and seals in that kit take that play out of it? As well as fresh seals.

    Check your shift linkage

Mitsubishi OEM is absolutely fine and all are easily available. Makes a massive difference to feel.

    Check your shift linkage

The plastic bushings simply wear out and disintegrate over time, hence why you cant see them. Here is mine from 160k kilometres, 100k miles. Nothing left whatseover of them. Very simple job to do and makes the box feel minty fresh.

    Steering Rack. Knocking, rebuild?

I recently installed new Top Mounts and new shocks, say about 6months ago with less than 500km on them. Front right mount is knocking bad, i dissasembled it and it seems like the sleeve in the top mount was rocking slightly. Re assembled and the knock is worse than before. Is it just unlucky...
