WTB: 1gb head

My #3 plug is striped out and I'm getting a misfire, so it's time for a top-end rebuild. If I can find one, I would like to use a 1gb so I get the benefit of larger head studs. I don't need cams, but I do need straight valves, guides, springs, etc...

thanks in advance!

Problem with the 7-bolt 1g head is that the head bolts were only 11mm diameter so some of the head bolt holes (the middle 2 i believe) need to be opened up to fit properly. Whereas, the 6 bolt head is much more easily modded to accept the larger studs for the exhaust manifold. A simple remove stud, drill and heli-coil for the new larger studs.

Isn't the 1gb still a 6-bolt head? my understanding is that it's found on 1992-94 GSX and other AWD DSM's of the same range. The 7-bolt is 2g and forward, right?

Or wrong... maybe? I wouldn't presume to be any expert on these things.

7 bolt engines came about in May 1992 up. Or basically, 93+ DSMs are 7 bolt.

The 2 main differences between a 1g head and a 2g head is intake runner cross section and head bolt hole diameter. the 1g 6 bolt takes a 12mm head bolt with a 13mm head bolt hole. The 2g 7bolt has a 11mm head bolt with a 12mm head bolt hole. There is the odd ball head 1g 7 bolt, that has the large cross section intake runners and the 12mm head bolt holes with 11mm head bolts.

It is simple enough to ream the head bolt holes out in the 1g 7bolt head to fit the larger 1g 6 bolt head bolts.
