Saturday afternoon, I headed to a local junkyard and parked the Galant on an incline. Well, evidently, on the highway ride out there, the rear seal decided to puke out the oil. So I just pulled the 23 spline t-case and the teeth are gone.Output shaft is worn too, so transmission is coming out.I just don't know if i should go ahead and build the block as well. Just pondering.

The above suggestions are spot on.

That is quite common.

I had to replace my output shaft and get a new t-case when I did the EVO III conversion for that exact same issue.

No biggie.

Pop a new shaft in and get another t-case.

Very simple really.

i've done it, personally, multiple times.

step one: put cars on jack stands
two: remove passenger front wheel
three: remove downpipe
four: remove tcase
five: remove end cap of transmission, 14mm bolts
six: remove clip on VCU
seven: remove VCU and ball bearing
eight: remove output shaft

reverse order with new output shaft, include additional step of filling the transmission though!

I got a tcase and a output shaft, but the movements are the same as the one I have that I took off the Galant. At this point, both the Tcase and output shaft needs to be replaced, but I now have a lingering suspicion that maybe the rear axle is the culprit. I really do. Gonna have to check it out.

Make sure you take care that the seal between the bearing plate and the middle housing aren't compromise, else you might have oil leak from there. When pulling the outer cover, it is easy to also move the bearing plate outward and lost that seal.
