I'm rebuilding the bottom end of my motor and am in the midst of doing the timing. I notices that my tensioner is weeping a little once I got it compressed. Is this normal or do I need a new one like I'm assuming?

Yes. And stick to OEM if you can,the OFF brands are usually prone to failure.
