Question on Gas gauge!!

Well guys my gas gauge is currently not working..I bought the car with the gauge not working...the current owner told me it was in the fuel pump assembly...Well me having a extra one from my last vr4..I decided to change the whole thing...and guess what the gauge is still not working...Has anyone had a similar problem..could it be the cluster....what do you guys think.....

I had this issue last summer and it was the sending unit. I opened up the little "box" above the flotation assembly and found the metal tab that is supposed to touch the coiled wire beside it was not touching and all I had to do was bend it down a bit to so it would make contact. Works flawlessly now.

ok I'm going to try that..today I took it to work and it went to 1/4 tank..I have a full tank..Ill try to do that to the box....

Mines been that way since 2000, changed the unit twice, checked the wires and changed cluster. Just got use to it not working. Car would go about 35 miles after the idiot light came on. Got something for the biach now, fuel safe is going in and it has its own gauge. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif
