question about head, is this casting flash?

just curious to know if this is meant to be there?
Or is it just casting flash that can be removed?






It is like this in all four holes.

Head is about to be rebuilt so I am trying to do some clean up before it goes back to the machine shop.

Can't help it gotta add some parts pics.

I would leave those holes alone. Nothing will be gained from cleaning that up, but you could knock something loose and or leave trash in the head that comes out at the wrong time. You could also cut into a passage that you don't know about!
