I'd like to strip the chrome off so I can paint it black. Any ideas? Any one done this?

just pull it out & replace it with black. it is nothing more than chromie plastic stuff stuck in there with double sided tape. a heat gun used carefully will help in the removal.

You can also clean with prep solvent and then wrap with black vinyl pinstripe. Autozone sells wide rolls. If you cut it down the middle with a razor two rolls will do the job and take less than 30 minutes.

If you decide to just peel it off you will need to heat it up first with a heat gun (carefully, don't stay in one spot too long or you will burn/melt paint) because you can pull off the paint with the trim if the adhesive is cool. Ask me how I know.
