I have bad piston rings, do you guys think i would be okay just getting new pistons and rings and honing the cylinder good. or should i go and have it bored out? you can still see the original cross hash marks on the cylinder walls, but the rings are just worn out, no scoring anywhere.

If you are ok with honing, not boring, you don't need new pistons. Get new rings and make sure the pistons and especially the ring grooves are clean.

Put in new rod bearings at least while you are in there.

I reused the oem pistons in the long block I picked up and I've put on over 10k miles. Like Icemen said, clean the ring grooves and don't be afraid to do bearings while you're in there.

I soaked my pistons in an old baking pan of kerosene overnight to break up the carbon deposits. I then snapped a ring in half and used that to scrape out the ring grooves. You'd be suprised how much crap gets in there.

as above, rings bearings and gaskets/seals and she'll be good as new, no need to replace the pistons if they aren't damaged.

yep i plan on doing bearings while i'm at it. i know i don't have to replace the pistons, but i do plan on adding more power in the future (500-600hp). and more than anything i want the insurance that the short block is rock solid, and since i brought it up is there a piston that you guys would recommend that you've had good luck with? and what compression ratio? i am currently looking at getting Wiseco 8.3:1 and eagle H-beam rods. if you see anything wrong in my plans please correct me before i do anything stupid:) thanks
