Make sure you don't have any air pockets in your coolant. I know it sounds crazy but... it can mess with your idle.

I wasn't too worried about the coating. My main concern is thinning a surface that hot exhaust gases travel across. I seem to recall an O2 housing that was open all the way too... but maybe I'm just thinking of the 5 bolt O2 housing.

I just purchased a Borg Warner S256NET. It has a mitsu turbine housing without a divider between the turbine outlet and the (internal) wastegate outlet. Similar to this but opened up mayabe a little more. What 02 housing should I run with it? I hate the idea of the exhaust flow running smack dab...

Sounds more like an idle air issue. Your computer has a table based on coolant temp for adjusting idle air. If the BIS is opened up too far the ecu tries to compensate by closing the isc. If it's way out of the range of what the ecu can compensate for it usually surges back and forth wildly...

So here's my theory... I checked my base timing (I know I'm a jerk ... I should have checked it wayyyy long ago) and it was retarded 10 degrees and my initial tune was way on the safe side... (read rich). Basically, I was almost set up like an anti-lag system (tons of unburnt fuel igniting...

The reason it's at that angle is because under my hood is a bit of a jigsaw puzzle. That was the only way it would clear the turbo, intercooler piping etc. It clears the hood by about 1/2" (it's a cf hood... I don't know if the underneath of it is the same as stock). The SPAL switch was an ebay...
