Squeal/Grind from the right front tire area

So I head into and get ready to park my car. Out of nowhere, there is a loud squealing/grinding noise that is coming from the right front tire area. I can't take a closer look at it until I drive the 60+ miles home.

There was no warning at all either. You hear the grind when I reverse too. Kind of sounds like a rusty rotor but that can't be the case after driving 60 miles.

Last time that happened it was on my Escort GT. Little warning as well. In that case, it turned out to be a siezed caliper.

Kind of wondering what the front piston setup is from the factory on this car as well. This car is full of suprises (everything has been modded by previous owner) and I wouldn't be surprised if the front brakes weren't stock either.

Are piston rebuild kits any good for stock brakes or do you generally swap the whole caliper?

Who knows what this is going to turn out to be...just want to see if anyone has experienced this.

Thanks

Reman'd front calipers are actually cheaper than the rears, since the rears have the parking brake integrated into them. If the problem ends up being the caliper, I would just go that route. But really, until you look at it, it could be any number of things. I've had a pebble get caught between the dust shield and the rotor, making a nasty noise. With all the sh*t on the roads during the winter, it seems pretty common for something like that to happen.

You are right...could be something simple. Good to know on the remanned fronts! Thanks.

i was in 1365 the other day and the dust shield all the sudden started to scrap the rotor, stuck my hand in the rim and pushed the dust shield back a bit and the noise was gone. maybe thats all it is. crazy things do happen.

I think my problem is far more sinister. One of the metal clips that hold the rear axle down broke the other day. I noticed some light brown grease on the top of my exhaust and undercarriage that I have never seen before. I secured it with a tie wrap because I needed to get to work. I forgot to tighten it with a worm clamp.

Uh oh!
