Does that fit? I always thought there wasn't enough clearance to use that type of compressor.

OP: Do a search. There's a few threads with good options.

"anothernewb" i have tried to use that type of compressor before it may have just been because of its specific design but it would not fit.

Here is a nice tool for that, but their website is currently down. Vid - click Site - click

We used this to do my valve springs with the engine assembled in the car and worked great for it. Its timing consuming to do all 16 but besides that its easy. Definitly worth the money

You can MAKE a valve spring compressor for $10 or less if you have a dremmel. You need a large C clamp, some JB weld and a socket you don't use anymore, one that's just big enough to fit on the top of the spring. Check it.

I used an 8" C clamp from Harbor freight and a 14mm or similar.

I've had a lot of success using this tool. True, you can make a tool for about half the price as this one, but this one has a certain consistency factor with it. You don't have to carefully tighten a c-clamp while making sure everything is still lined up; you bolt it to the head, compress the spring comfortably with a ratchet, and then move onto the next. Another added benefit is that you have the option of changing valvestems and such with the head still on the car.

Yeah, I don't remember buying a 4g. Unless you have a secret project brewing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif

What, you think I only work on your cars? Have to pay the bills some how, good dinners don't keep the lights on.

Dude, you dont know anybody with a 4g. Come on now. 9/10 wrench jobs you do, I know the peoples who's cars your working on. It's ok, everybody makes mistakes bro. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif got to bust your chops a little bit here and there. You'd do the same if I would've done it. There's usually a little more incintive when were wrenching on 1947 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif than gourmet meals.
