Thread paint for underbody

Does anyone know what type of paint is used on the OEM fasteners? I'd like to do this on my cars for corrosion resistance.

Not sure what type of paint, but if you believe it is for corrosion protection that is only an unexpected side affect. That paint is used on sponges inside the sockets when installing the fasteners on the assembly line so it can easily be seen that they have been torqued.

no kidding!? That's pretty cool. Well maybe it has no effect on protecting the threads in that case.

I'm no real help other than to say that Zinc Chromate is a common anti corrosive paint/primer. Although I have personally only seen it used on aluminum....
