^^ I heard about of Shep Transmissions way before I was into GVR4/DSM's. I know he makes good trannys. "For most transmissions we recommend Redline MT90 or Pennzoil Synchromesh" since I use my GVR4 as a daily, I'm sure I fit in that profile. I like the fact that I can go 5 mins from my house to NAPA and pick up Pennzoil Synchromesh.

Lol but can you go to Napa and get a trans rebuild? I would be willing to bet that is out of date and if you call him he will most likely say something other than that.

TRE says Diaqueen as well.

No. But the point being that I don't want to turn my GVR4 into a money pit, I already have one. ( My money-pit (its been over a year since I updated my page) I have no plan for racing/drag/autocross for this car. I just want a quicker that the norm beater car to zip around traffic. Diaqueen is $100 a gallon, which is much if I'm not going to put it to good use.

Well to be brutally honest the gvr4 is a money pit just to keep maintained properly so get out while you can!

Last I knew Diaqueen was about 65 per gallon at STM unless that has changed in the past few months?

It will work for a while I am sure and I have run it in the past however I have had many transmissions apart that used the syncro mesh and if you saw first hand the problems it caused you would feel like I do but if you live in a cooler climate it may be better off than in a hotter one as that stuff turns thinner than water in the summer months and if you listen closely you can actually hear the gears chattering from lack of proper lubrication that was it for me but I am not saying your trans will blow up in xxx amnt of miles and it may last for some time its just not the best option remember you can always do a 1 to 1 mix of syncro mesh and some regular gear oil if price is a concern.

I just checked STM web site and it does indeed look like it has hiked up in price to 94.00 per gallon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Woops thats ^^ for the evo 6 speed tranny.($230 diaqueen) JNZ has it for $31 a gallon.(Diamond) But not sure if it's diaqueen. I don't think everything on that chart is diaqueen, some of the oils are Diamond. Mitsus private labeled brand.

I got 3 quarts from Jack's for $10 a quart.

He buys it in drums and repackages it, passing on the savings.

I just found a shop that sells Redline MT-90, so I'm going to do a 3:1 (MT-90 to Synchromesh) mix.

Why? The recommendation of 50/50 redline mt90/ mtl has worked perfectly for the last 15+ years.

It took me a week to find somebody local thay sells MT-90, and they don't stock MTL. The only way I can get MTL is if I order it online, I hate ordering any type of fluids online.

Out of the 5 "performance shops" I called, only the LS engine shop had MT-90 in stock). Looks like the BMW/Saab repair shop carry Redline.

Did you miss the part about how reputable shops say not to use it?

I guess so. My head is starting to spin. Some people/shops say use synchomesh, other people say synchomesh is too thin and the gear will wear faster. Other people/shops say use Redline MT-90, others say use a 50/50 mix of MT-90 and MTL because MT-90 is too thick. Than you have another group saying use a 3:1 ratio of gear oil to syncho oil. Than you have other people saying/shops saying use diaqueen oil. Not to mention the group of BG syncoshift users.

At the end of the day its going to start getting cold here in VA so I don't want super thick oil. At the same time I want to change the oil asap, I don't know when was the last time the oil was change and the last owner can't remember. If my tranny craps out on me for using a syncho so be it, but if I do have to get a new tranny I'm using AMSoil.
