If you want to get the absolute best coilover set up money can buy, there's one place to go. Ohlins.

Now, for those of us who aren't planning on spending $10,000 on a set of kick ass suspenders, might I suggest stepping outside the common street tuner mentality of buying something bolt-on that was very likely a knock-off of a knock-off of what everyone else is having made in China and imported to the States with their team colors?

Start looking into Bilstein inserts. You can get them custom valved just about any way you like. They're rebuildable too. Want them valved for road use, done. Want them valved for race use, done. Want them valved for Baja 1000, done.

Then what you do is you send a set of stockers to a suspension fabrication specialist like Southwest Motorsports or JVAB up in Seattle. They'll fab up the hardware to accept the Bilsteins and bolt nicely to your car. Consider these JVAB 50mm Bilstein bouncers custom made for an Audi rally car.

EDIT: Notice the difference in shaft diameter between the $10,000 Ohlins above and the 50MM on the JVABs below. If you were doing a buck twenty down a logging road, which would you rather have on your car? One set cost less than $3000...

Damn straight those Ebay coilover sleeves are bullshit, but if you're going to spend more than $1000 on suspension, then you really owe it to yourself to consider all your options. Get the most for your money. I've driven a GVR4 rally car with entry level Bilsteins and upgraded springs and it was firm, but nice on the road, but I could hit any speed bump at 30mph and not even feel it, whereas I have to downshift to 1st and coast over them in my KYB setup daily.

Not saying, just saying.

I had a set of Ohlins on my 850t5r and I loved the external reseverior especially in the rear. For these car's no. I have Ksports, whiteline sway bars, cusco strut braces etc etc and while I dont daily my car, I certainly could without an issue.

That pic of cranks car looks way to low on the rear. I dont think i want to lower it that much. Just a little . I always like to put suspensions on my car cars . I had a tsi with eibach springs never complained car felt like a dream. Same thing with my lincoln ls. But i put coil overs on my mirage ls ground control and they sucked.Iwant to lower my vr4 but not alot and i dont want it to affect my lauching just want it to look nice

I cruised up to Seattle area with Brianawd when I was hung over one day. I felt like hanging my head out the window the whole time. His KSports sent my head into the ceiling on 2 occasions while his ass was nicely planted in his Corbeau. It wasnt a pleasant ride by any means. He has a stiffer rear spring than most.

I decided to go the Evo VIII route for now, I found some stock struts and springs for $100 locally with only a few thousand miles on them and located another Evo VIII set with Espelirs for $170ish shipped. I might just flip the ones I found locally and bolt the other set on.

So the evoVIII susensions fit on the galant?

Dude, they are fully adjustable coilovers. They dont have to be that low. You can raise them or lower them as much as you want. They are not springs that you can't set, you realize that right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Also the green car is KT's old car not mine. You can look in my build thread and see pictures of the ride height I have.

Then you can raise them up! Christ on a bike, how is it that hard to understand that coilovers are adjustable!

Let's keep this thread on track please. And FYI, "coilover" is a pretty generic term since even our stock suspension is a coil-over design.

When somebody says I bought coilovers for my car it means adjustable ride height (minumum) and most often adjustable dampening. I have never seen anybody say "I bought coilvovers" and be talking about a strut with a coil over stock spring. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I'm rocking some D2's. I have it set a bit agressive, but thats how I like it. When I drove my car to Ohio I turned them down and they were very smooth on my 600 mile ride with 2 other people in the car. I hated my KYB AGX's and Ground control coil overs.

Ohlins doesnt make a coil over for our car's I called befor I bought the D2's /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif
