Mike, I sent you a text about this but I'll explain my experience too.
I did this once on a 20g set up I had, probably 10 years ago, at the time I made the downpipe like that, external gate, dump tube and the down pipe were the same length, it sounded nasty as hell, I liked it. I intended to quiet things down a bit, but had not gotten around to it. it was fine to get me to and from work, but then I went on a road trip.
An hour on the highway was all it took for the heat from the exit of the pipe to start heating my oil pan, started burning the paint off it, I pulled off due to the smell and quickly realized what was happening, Who knows how hot the oil in that car got (you could risk destroying your fancy new engine you've been trying to protect with 100 oil changes) or what damage would have occurred if I continued, but I found a local auto parts store, grabbed a foot of that cheap flexy exhaust repair sh*t
and a turndown
Both are readily available from your work...
I clamped them in place and wire tied them to the sub frame with safety wire, headed back out on the road and had no issues the rest of the way...
So you can spend the $25 before the trip, be prepared, still have it loud as sh*t and if you're worried it looks bad, take it off when you get to ohio. But jesus man, dont burn your car to the f***ing ground.
