Do your under hood temps seem crazy hot

In the florida summers the engine seems hot as hell. I've used spacers in the hood hinge area so there is a 1/4 inch gap between where the hood would be flush. I put my hand in that gap and you can feel all the heat coming out from the gap. It dropped my intake air temps by 5 degrees at idle and almost 12 degrees are speed (in the summer). My car currently has the air filter in the fender area. Soon I will be putting a 90 degree bend pipe into the fender so the filter is between the inside fender and the frame.

I don't suggest lifting the back of the hood with spacers to let heat escape. You end up allowing underwood vapors and scents be allowed into the fresh air vents and get to smell that while driving. Not enjoyable. Not only that, but it works like cowl induction and screws up underwood airflow. A good hood vent would be much more conducive to exhausting hot air.

But really, what is considered "hot"? Just because it feels hot to humans when you open the hood doesn't mean it's necessarily a bad thing to the components that live there. It's an engine, things get hot. It's normal. The biggest problem is people removing factory heatshields and then complaining when their alternators sh*t the bed.

Lifting the rear of the hood allows air into the engine bay and the base of the windshield is under high pressure air, not a low pressure. It vents nothing. It's a stupid fad brought on by drifters and copycat honda fly boys.

I will say every DSM and Glaant I work on has a toasted hard brittle wiring harness and my 93 Vans harness felt like it was brand new.

Perhaps the issues is crappy wire insulation then? Lifting the hood on my Audi I don't feel a significant difference in heat compared to the Mitsu.

No I was saying years of elevated under hood temps from a turbocharged car made them brittle. The Expo was noticeably cooler when you popped the hood.
