Hi all...

A big thanks to all...

Insurance paid out on thursday at the value the car was insured for! 2 months of haggling and a 118 page report (3 pages of letter, the balance of appendicies) later they finally caved and I got the money and the car with no salvage charge (free) and they have not prevented it from being repaired! So it's categorised on the government record as repairable...

Hehehehe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now just have to finish the remodelling at the house and preparing my sons room to move in to make space for our new baby, then i'll be able to crack on with it.

I now have to ask the DVLA (our equivalent of the DMV) what my options are to reshell it. I also made enquiries of what had happened to the body jig at my old bodyshop when it closed, have now traced it to its new home and the guy knows my old body guy. Now I have unquestioned legal title, I can start asking, investigating, measuring and quoting.

also keeping my ear tothe ground for donor cars here.

Still a bunch more questions to ask before the rebuid will have a crystallised direction, but rest assured its coming!

Rich

PS. the poll thread was a very very valuable appendix in my insurance report. cheers guys

Bit of an update..

The injury claim is a lot further on now. has been a very difficult year, but today was the first day the claim was in court. I'm a happy camper as the other side has had a pineapple well and truly wedged up their nose. Once they work out what the ramifications are of this day in court they should be running at me with offers.

Disinterested, indifferent despicable lousy bunch of fucktards. Ha is all I have to say to them. they 'll have a bumpy ride from here.

Misterfixit's head is back and he's going to be able to make a start on the car in the next couple of months.

All done and dusted with the insurance now. Settled out of court for £3250, £850 expenses and £1000 for the car. Finished decorating upstairs and have arranged a stand in daily (my bro in laws bb1). Still working downstairs.

The grey one's registration and inspection expires in two weeks, so i'll be breaking this up.

Any requests for parts? Paul do you still want the front bumper?

Obviously I need the whole right side of the car, crossmember, wishbones rear bumper. I'm not sure how much is of value. I've scanned the brochures so you'll be able to see the specs on the car, its a 1991.late 1800glsi.

If anyone wants the engine & transmission i'll drop it out in one whole lump.

Shipping is arrangable, and I know I had some pms when I got the car from the Phillippines, i will be able to deliver to manila in the summer, and I would like to ask for some help for my brother in law with our Lancer prior to our arrival.

Kind regards,

Rich,

I PM'd you. Not looking to make your job any more difficult than it already is but there is a lot on that car that is useful. Sent a list of everything I can think of plus a few bits I need/want. Off the top of my head, what I am really interested in

Accordian shifter boot and gearknob
Rear passenger (UK driver's side) interior locking knob
Interior door light covers (red ones!)
Amber corners
Centre dash A/C vent
Front mudflaps (I really, really want those!)
Headlight washer reservoir and pigtails

No worries paul;

Rich,

I PM'd you. Not looking to make your job any more difficult than it already is but there is a lot on that car that is useful. Sent a list of everything I can think of plus a few bits I need/want. Off the top of my head, what I am really interested in

Accordian shifter boot and gearknob.. no worries
Rear passenger (UK driver's side) interior locking knob.. ok, they wre all the same and unscrew off the wire.
Interior door light covers (red ones!).. Hanging onto these. Have a spare set of white ones and want to make some half red half white ones.
Amber corners... ok, no wories
Centre dash A/C vent.. No probs as the dash will be coming out, need it out to get the a pillar off intact
Front mudflaps (I really, really want those!).. ok, they are gash though, it doesn't have any body claddings so they will only fit base model cars.
Headlight washer reservoir and pigtails, this I need the pump and level sensor off.

Cheers Rich,

Mudflaps will make good spares for the GTi even if they need a bit of work and I think they 'might' fit the AMG kit if cleaned up and colour coded.

Washer reservoir is fine. I can fit an aftermarket level sensor and I don't need the pump. I'll just be using it as a meth injection reservoir on the car here. Decent location, easy to fill under the hood, decent capacity.

If the locking knobs are universal, unscrew the lot they have a tendency to break for some reason. I understand if there is anything you want to hang onto and thanks for the other bits.

Paul.

Well its been a few weeks now and they have been busy. Very busy but more to come on that later once it settles down (not galant related).

Progress has been made onthe car and arrangements have been pencilled in to fix the shell. It'll be jigged and welded at the same time. Still have some negotiation to do on the paint but thats relative smallfry.

Inspection lapsed on the grey car 20 something of january and then its illigal to drive without. So its been broken up:

So heres the repair kit . Jig man said he wanted the side of the donor +1' of floor and roof. All the panels to go to the bodyshop are neatly arranged next to the Garage. Mate said when he saw "someone appears to have parked a garage in your car"

This lot then was kept to one side to weigh in and reclaim some value.

Aluminium went first got £32 then this lot went off and netted £70 . Also the paperwork was filled out to officially scrap the car!

kept everything else, other quarter, a and b pillar, sunroof mech, front crossmembers, full interior.

now starts the clearup in preparation of stripping the green car prior to its rejuvination.
heres the cars orig 16v conversion motor that came out in 08 with 16 bent valves.

lots of shiny smiles on the piston which need to be lifted out, dressed and reassembled.

Heres the head done and ready to go back on (that was the evenings this week and lapping valves and removing old gaskets works wonders when your brain needs to be diverted to clear your mind.

looky 16 shiny newly lapped valves

Apologies for the cell phone pics... hope you enjoy them ;0

Engine is back in one lump!

Space is appearing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

kk let me know if you come across another rear. I realize shipping would be a PITA. but id rather pay a member than someone on ebay.

Engine looks great btw, i can't wait to see this car being put back together.

Hehehe

The teardown started today! took the camera out with the intention of taking lots of pics, but the front is stripped bumper and suspension legs hung back on so it can go back on the ground.

Jig man has a recovery flat bed so he'll come and get it when it's ready (hoping it'll be ready on wednesday). Still one bonus now I can see it properly is the firewall is straight, the pillar has rolled behind it. I can't work out where or if the cross bar has moved, but later in the week i'll get measuring.

Amazed at the bolts at the bottom of the wings not breaking, there is alot of surface crustyness though (Standing 18 months while we fought out the money didn't do it any favours). Dipping and electroplating is too much $$$ (£2700), how do you use por15? theres a couple of different products they do and i want it done right.

Hey people some /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif, some /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/idea.gif and some /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Bodyman is going to come and pick up the car tomorrow (/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Parcel shelf is tweaked... Wonder what'll happen on the jig. :)!)
Underside is very crusty, so sand-blasting or the like will be in store....

empty car

Here where the seatback hooks go there are two folds, looks like its been shoved forwards. Any one who could please can i get some good shots of the shelf area in a bare shell, 2wd or 4wd is no issue as the shelf is the same in both.

I tried fitting the straight doors but the front wouldn't go in and close. Bent doors the windows wouldn't go below 2" off closed. Getting the glass out of them will be a bloody pain. If its nice weather when the car is collected I'll keep the bent doors here so I can chop them up to hopefully rescue the glass.

Here it is waiting to go

Update. (Apologies for the cell phone pics it's been a bit rushed the last two days!)

After 2 days of fegging around with the bodyshop guys recovery truck being off in oxford or someplace else a very good freind came to the rescue on Thursday evening, here it is loaded up and ready to rock:

Dropped it off about 7pm and then came back to get the side cut and other parts:

Bodyshop man was a little surprised to see how stripped it was, and I was expecting to be waiting a good while before it found it's way onto the jig so todays trip to drop off the body manuals and some other stuff I got a nice surprise to find this!

and the Jig being prepared:

So its jumped the que of quite a few newer cars and has the full attention of the crew there! How cool is that? The Guy who runs the place is a bit of a car guy and has some interesting (but modern /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) Renaults and a Impreza STI there so we'll see how this turns out.

At least he'll enjoy working on this as he'll be able to see all aspects of it on the jig, also means we have been able to keep tabs on any secondary damage. Has to be right as this is our family car, and after this process will hopefully be so for many many years to come.

As an aside here are the valves fished out of the lump further up the page (they're in the trash now!)

And the lump now assembled with wiring looms etc (still waiting a parcel or two for this though, but nearly there!)

Todays update.

Popped in on the way home from work but the bodyshop guys had knocked off early (a lovely evening for it if I do say so myself). It was pushed into a corner, but I was stunned to see how much it had come on in only a day.

Shutlines at the back reappear:

Look how much the quarter has come back:

Rear profile around the lights:

The front door aperture is next on their hit list you can see here the gap at the crown of the 'a' pillar bigger than at the back or the base of the window channel

A good rear overall shot (looks much healthier)

Tomorrow we'll see where they get too, still a fair bit of cutting and welding to do but the body is becoming the right shape again!! YAY /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wow. Wish I'd had the budget to do it up right like this on 464/1000. As it were, it's my daily driven spares package for the rally car. :p
