Anybody on here ever shave the exterior plastic panel on thier doors? I've been contemplating this ever since I started my build. I'm not really a big fan of them, and think the car would look nice without them, and a few other things. If anybody has, please let me know, or if someone has pics or can photoshop them out, that would be awesome. Thanks.

Or you could get regular galant doors /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Find a picture of a factory AMG galant and they come with smooth sides. I like my testarossa side skirts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Testarossa. Nice.
I agree, it might be less hassel to find some regular galant doors. Body work and I do not get along.

I understand that the doors are the same, and I have two sets of doors for the car. One thing i considered during my build was to leave the door skirts off, and weld over the holes. I would still have the other set of doors to put on if I don't like it, but I mocked it up before teardown, and liked the way it looked. My original idea came from the amg package with smooth sides. The only potential problem I see is that the front skirt that covers the fender still has the testarossa look, which I had considered filling in smooth, and getting rid of the chrome trim strip. I was just wondering if it had ever been done before, or if any pics were out there. I'm not relly a fan of the oem skirts with the lines, and would like to something different with mine. Thanks for the input.

If you don't do body work, don't go with the aeroworks kit. I think you have to use sheet metal screws and fill them in afterwards...

Oh, I do bodywork. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif However, I don't really like the idea of using sheetmetal screws. So, I guess I can assume that this has never been done before, or at least, no one has pics. First time for everything....

The non ribbed doors have a large step between the black trim and the door.

a) use 'bog' and fill in the ribs, sand back and paint.
b) stretch fabric over the ribs, nice and tight. Fibreglass into position. sand and paint.

Found these other day (see pictures below)

The rear doors are a little long and the front seem to be 1/8 inch short but the front fender piece is about 1/4 long. Just held them up to see what they would look like but don't know if I want them yet because of the way the fender piece is. If I end up using them I'll have to go back and pull the rocker covers as well as the rear bumper cover from the car I'm thinking it may fit the car and would flow better because the side panels pictured below have the 3 little flutes.

As for the stuff from Paulo and aeroworks it requires serious install effort no bosses on the back side and a shim piece would have to be built Top and bottom. I have a set of them as well and the outsides are smooth and perfect just installing would take some time.

Start guessing what car there from. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, he lied about the junkyards. He just jacks cars for a living!

I swore I'd never tell anyone when he had me chained to that log in his backyard, basted in bbq rub and shouting "Squeal Piggy Squeal!" but since I got back here I'm not scared anymore!
