On my 2nd Alternator this year. Started with the bearing getting F'd which was noisey and embarassing and then voltage drop. Today the sound changed and I had trouble even getting the car home. Battery light on, babied I still barley made it.

CEL was coming on/off and ECU was clicking. When I finally pulled in at home, noticed seat belts not working and auto locks not working. I ended my frustration there, am getting in my reliable DODGE (never thought I would say that) truck and going golfing.....

Any others have simular issues after alts fried and what was the fix (fuses). I know weekly this is an issue, so I hope someone has some insight!!!!! Thanks for the help as always guys!!!-Russ

What are you running for an exhaust? In past experiences I have fried alternators from the heat coming off of dumptubes/downpipes. If this is your case then you have two options. You can either wrap your exhaust with heat wrap, fabricate a heat shield for the alternator, or you if you no longer utilize the AC compressor, you can relocate your alternator to that area with the Jay Racing kit.

Yeah, I have read all these options thru searching. I have a evo3 o2. I am going to build a shield this time around as I have all materials.

MY MAIN CONCERN IS: all the electrical components not working and clicking ECU, is it possible my electrical system suffered some residual damage???.... Thanks again, Russ

No damage should be present on the car. You were driving a 12 volt system with an 8 volt battery.

The battery was so dead that the ECU processor (and everything else made for 12v) could not stay running.

Charge battery over night, replace alt and everything should be back to normal.

As far as the heat is concerned, shielding the heat from the alt is a good start. But if you don't get that heat out from under the hood, then the engine bay becomes an oven and slowly bakes everything.

Install heat shields (of some sort) and get a vented hood. Getting the heat out is the best way to keep things working for a long time.. It will help with all plastic and rubber parts as well.
