  7. Boost Gauge install

I mean this is the best way, but unless you want to pull your mani and tap it (and are comfortable doing so), a distro block is your next best-bet.
  8. Boost Gauge install

There's a few rules:* T off the Intake * don't touch the vac line to the fuel pump * distribution blocks are your friend * T as close to the gauge as possible (limit the length of the vac line)Unless you are planning to invest in a new intake mani w/ more hose nipples, I would suggest...

  27. The end (UPDATE - asshole located)

I shopped the car as-is a bit and no one came close to a value I would need to see to sell it in one piece. Know I know at first-blush that sounds like I'm just another mook who doesn't understand the intrinsic value of this dying breed. Please understand that like most project cars, I won't...
  28. Partout: 543/1000 (UPDATED w/ current parts list)

Here's what happenedThe car is currently at the EH Motorsports garage where Evan will be helping me to part the car out. In fact, those of you on Facebook might already be talking with him about parts. To simplify this process, I've created a workbook for us to track what's being sold...
  29. The end (UPDATE - asshole located)

There's obvious damage to the bumper core, but the skin itself looks fine (somehow). The light on the trunk cartridge was broken before the car got hit. I actually have the replacement light in my basement which I'll swap into the cartridge for the partout.

Thanks, transparentdsm. you should have gotten a shout-out, too. Thanks for all the help and advice over the years.
  32. The end (UPDATE - asshole located)

Some presumably drunk asshole decided to end my VR4 ownership at 1:30am a few Wednesday's ago. Hit-and-run while parked in front of my house. The paperwork is all settled, and while the $6500 the insurance company offered me is a testament to keeping good records and providing market value...
  33. Switched to ignition under the hood?

Sorted out. I was rewiring my radiator fans and it dawned on me that I could just use the OEM relay on the fuse block. Done and done.
  34. Switched to ignition under the hood?

Is there an easy place to find a lead that is switched to ignition under the hood? I've got a new radiator in with it, a new thermo switch. The switch is working well enough, but wired directly into the battery means it runs even when the car is off. it doesn't run long, but I'd prefer it didn't...
  35. Goddamnitsomuch

I'm wondering if losing a pair of exhaust rockers might have been part of the issue here as well. of the 3 rockers I lost, two were on the #4 exhaust cyl (the other was one off the #2 I think).Seems to me that without the exhaust valves opening, I could run the risk of lifting the head w/ cyl...
  36. Goddamnitsomuch

Larger, more efficient core = same mix in the winter and summer. That's what blew me up. 103*+ in the summer forced a lower glycol ratio. I mean it's my own fault, but not having to change mixtures between seasons means this just won't happen again.
  37. Goddamnitsomuch

UPDATE:So we found the rockers. All were hiding in the head. We also found that one had grooved the intake cam when it decided to slip this mortal coil.I also didn't mention that Evan did a compression test at the start of all of this and found the following:Cly 1 - 125 psi Cly 2 - 98...
  38. Goddamnitsomuch

Valve cover offMissing 3 rockers1 accounted for so farmore to come...
  39. Was there a reset?

    Can confirm from other sources.
  40. Goddamnitsomuch

An excellent question and one with an equally excellent answer.Certainly, when I get the car to Evan, we'll do a compression test on all cylinders. I thought about renting a tool from the local parts store, but decided I would prefer that Evan do this test for a few different reasons:1. Even...
  41. Goddamnitsomuch

I think the real issue is the ebay radiator. I was running a mix that was obviously too light on actual anti-freeze. I checked it this morning, and at 19*, it wasn't frozen, but when it hit 12*, who knows.I'll get the head off and all will be revealed.I'll also likely replace the radiator, too.
  42. Goddamnitsomuch

No questions, just a cautionary tale and a need to vent because seriously, f***.12*F here in Portland a few days ago. Started up my car yesterday and it was missing pretty bad and running very rich. I do have cold-start enrichment setup in link, but 11.0:1 was pretty extreme. I let it warm...
  43. Squeak after wheel bearing replacement (Found it... UPDATE)

Found the sound. It's my speedo cable. I hadn't noticed before, but the noise perfectly syncs with the bouncy speedo gauge that I have. I think letting the car sit for over two weeks in cold, rainy weather at the airport allowed the old cable to do what old cables do.Creatively annoy me...
  44. Squeak after wheel bearing replacement (Found it... UPDATE)

Balls Well back to the shop Monday I suppose Thanks!
  45. Squeak after wheel bearing replacement (Found it... UPDATE)

Did it sound like something between a squeaky belt and squeaky suspension?
  46. Squeak after wheel bearing replacement (Found it... UPDATE)

So three weeks ago I had both of my front wheel bearings replaced by a local shop. I then left town, just returning Friday. I've noticed that one got a fairly noisy squeak coming from the front of the car and I'm thinking it's likely related to the work. Now I've got no issue taking my car back...
  47. Scirocco radiator blues

That's another interesting data point. I'm running a 190* t-stat. I actually have a 180* on hand from before my last round of cooling work. I changed it because I thought 196*-200* was my happy place. Should I go cooler?
  48. Scirocco radiator blues

Thanks, GSTwPSIThe radiator has a custom shroud covering the backside. The car temp is right at 200 during cruise, and gets predictably hot going up long hills. The real issue is that it doesn't cool when I'm driving in traffic, so fans would seem to be a good place to start.clickThe fan...
  49. Lean AFR spikes @ WOT w/ LC-1 WB

I forgot to put a bow on this thread.I installed a new WB sensor and everything has been fine since.
