Paul asked me to post some pics of parts we're recieving for him on a daily basis. There'll be more to come. These are parts exactly to his specification so I'm sure he's more prepared to answer questions than I am. (especially on the electronics!!!)

those parts are so pretty. this will certainly be a rather impressive street machine. i can't wait to see it come together.

The diffs should be one of the most unique features on this car. No holds barred. I've never even seen the cusco center diff. I can't wait for it to show up.

It's going to be interesting. I'm still worried about the ratios on the hybrid gearbox, but the consensus seems to be that as long as the boost comes in as quick as it is supposed to on the Holset, with all the engine work, the stroker kit and the 9.0:1 compression we shouldn't have any issues there. If we make enough torque down low then theoretically this thing should fly.

As we all know however, throwing parts and money at a car doesn't guarantee results, it's all in the tuning and this sadly is where I lack both knowledge and experience. Chris (Pivvay) has pushed me away from the AEM EMS and onto the DSMLink and I'm glad he did that. It was a bit of a blow to the ego being told I was biting off more than I could chew with the AEM unit but I think it was the truth. I still think it is going to be hard work getting everything setup but I feel more confident now, like I'm setting off with a map and directions and not just fumbling around in the dark. It's not quite GPS but at least I know roughly where I'm headed.

For the perverts amongst you (that means you Paul) there are far more dirty pictures to come and some others that need to be ressurected (carbon clutch, some centre console modification, huge stereo install to name a few) ...

... right now I'm in the process of talking to a bluetooth engineer to see if we can rig up a keyfob that pairs with another device as you approach or get into the vehicle and breaks the conection when you get a certain distance away from it. The idea is similar to the old TMO security hacks for 'locking' the ECU unless the correct pedal taps are made before starting the car. This will be a little more convenient; if you are sat in your car the ECU works and as soon as you leave it it is disabled. The beauty of this (if we can get it to work) however is that even changing the ECU over won't get round the security feature.

btw that security feature/technology already exists. clifford has it, also a few other companies use it on their alarm systems.

Those Cusco stut bars are nice. I hope your joking about them being the last ones. If you are can you please tell me where you got them from. BTW- those are the most driveline modifications on a Galant that I have seen or heard of on this board. NICE.

Those strut bars are more than alot of the guys pay for their suspensions. And I believe they were the last and only new set known to still exsist.

For the simple reason that it IS a sub-$2000 car. I have already tried the modifying a new car route and it's a blatant waste of money. You buy a new car and you rip off perfectly good parts to replace them. It would have cost me twice as much to do this to a new car.

I know there are people out there who will say "I couldn't justify spending that sort of money on a 12 year old car, I'd rather buy a new one". And if you feel that way and that's what makes you happy, then I think that's what you should do. But if I bought a brand new Subaru or EVO it would be 'stock'. It would have all the weaknesses, all the restrictions, all the needs of a stock car. When the VR4 is done, it will in fact be NEW. You'll be hard pushed to find something on it that isn't. And it will be stronger, faster and better than any stock AWD out there.

Add to that it's a bit of heritage, it costs me nothing in insurance compared to a brand new EVO or such, noone will ever expect it to be THAT fast which makes giving a brand new STi a complete hiding much more fun ... and it just looks good, even after 12 years.

This is my DREAM car. You can take your Lamborghinis and Ferraris, your Porsches and your Hummers, your AMG Mercedez and your Rolls Royces. All are fantastic cars but if I had to choose one car to drive everyday and to do everything, I'd still choose this one. 0-60 in sub 5 secs, a top speed of probably 160 or more, a proper trunk, four doors, four seats, a first class stereo, GPS, internet access, DVD playback with 5.1 surround sound, air-conditioning, rear view camera, race suspension, 18 inch rims with 380 mm front discs. Now tell me the sticker price on a new car that has ALL of that included and tell me you STILL don't think this is worth the money.

Having owned many new cars and old, I now drive a VR4. I just sold my daily driver which was a twin turbo, Volvo. I have spent the better part of a year working on this car and I couldn't have said it as well as you just did, Paul. Thanks for allowing me to share in your dream machine.
