I finally got a new to me gas tank with good studs to replace mine. The vapor return line is sealed off and I'm just wondering if it's okay to leave it that way? I've searched for vented gas caps on the web but not much information out there on that. All my emissions stuff is long gone and right now it just vents to the atmosphere.

I just want to make sure it's not dangerous.

That isn't a problem as long as your emissions stuff is gone. The only thing that will change is you will hear some air pressure release when you take off the gas cap. I have it done in my car with no adverse effects.
