A question about knock.

Not I know what knock is. But what I don't know is what causes knock? I have a scan master 3 in my car and it's throwing at the most 43 and flashes is this bad?

a lot of things can cause knock, low octane fuel, detonation, rod knock.

bad fuel, improperly adjusted timing, too high boost level with an ineffeciant intercooler.

Phantom knock caused by a rattling downpipe, a knock sensor with the goop melted out of it, lifter tic. These are all things that can cause knock.
