Looking for cold air inlet ideas. .. my open element filter is seeing 140°F temps here in Texas.

I'm still using stock battery location, but wouldn't mind moving to the oem charcoal canister spot. Also using a 3g MAF.

Please post your setup that isolates under hood temps from your filter.

90 it down so that it is below the stock battery location.

Stuck in traffic I see higher intake temps when it's hot out (when power production is the least of my worries). As long as traffic is flowing in town or out on the freeway, I pretty much see ambient temps with the filter behind the headlight.

Sorry, I'll clarify.

The battery is in the stock battery location. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I agree that freeway cruising drops it considerably, still those normal traffic situations feel a little laggy with 140º temps.

Wondering if moving the battery and building an air box behind the headlight to pull air from top of wheel well would be worth it?

Then you'll be pulling road temp and tire temp air temps. No matter what you'll be pulling hotter air than you want at idle and low speed traffic. Move the battery and build a "wall" to deflect the engine bay temps. That's pretty much the best you can do. I've never thought that having a long twisty route for the air to be pulled is worth the small decrease in inlet temps.

Do the normal intake setup, build a box, build ducting to funnel only fresh air in.

^^^^^+1 its pretty easy to do and you can get creative or buy a premade one. Up to you!

Yep - I thought of building a box already. I haven't worked out the details yet so that's why I started this thread. I was curious to see other's designs.

I was unaware someone sells premade intake enclosures for our cars. Where would I find those?
