water pump / alternator arm bolt leak

Looks like leak on the front of my motor - the water pump bolt that also holds the alternator support arm. Wetness showing from there down the lower timing cover, trickling down to bottom where it's all over everything.

I had the very same leak on #39 and was able to tighten it to stop, no such luck here. That'll teach me to not loosen it or bump that arm, when swapping alternators.

Can anyone confirm offhand that the water pump pulley has to come off for this bolt to come out? I was in a rush so didn't mess with it yet, seem to recall that's the case though. TIA

Have you checked the weep hole on the bottom of the pump shaft? I had a leak just like this, and suspected the alt. arm bolt, but it turned out to be the weep hole (pump was worn out). It's designed to leak at the weep hole as a warning.

The water runs down the side of the front case. If the timing cover is still on, you may notice water in the recessed area just below the pump.

As an answer to your question about the bolt, it looks like the water pump pulley does not block access to it:

Hope this helps /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
