Hi All!
My Name is Colby. First off this is my first forum and first sports car. I bought #1708 in January of this year in Denver Colorado off of Craig's List. Below is the List of Mods and what ad said:
"1991 Galant VR4 1708/2000
4 cylinder 2.0 turbo
All Wheel Drive
4 Wheel Steering
192,000 miles
5 speed Manual
This rare car is loaded with performance modifications: Big 16 G Turbo, at 20lbs of boost, 660 CC Fuel injectors, HKS SSQ blow off valve, ACT 2600 Clutch, FMIC
2G MAF, 2G Exhaust Manifold, DSM Link Version 2, and 17 Inch Rims
Car needs work, it does not start and will need to be towed. Thank you for your interest, if you have any questions please contact me "
Here are Some pics of the Car:

So I made a road trip from Western Colorado over to take a look at it. I of course already had every intention of buying this car fixing it in a parking lot and driving it back. So we arrived I paid for the car as broken went to auto parts store bought a new larger battery and BAM! Car starts right up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif After letting it warm up me and my best friend boosted around the block a few times and then went to gas station checked oil tires and fueled up. We were kind of trying to hurry because a large winter storm was coming in.
On way back from Denver Car was making very odd pitched whine that really concerned me, my buddy said it was a 91 and alot of road noise might be expected. Anyway after a few hours I was finally coming down off of Continental Divide in the middle the snow storm The car made loud vibrating bang or snap almost as if the drive shaft broke... But the whine went away immediately and car was still running and much quieter, I pulled over and no visible damage. I Later found that this noise was the transfer case internals shattering and I only have front wheel drive. It did have some weird symptoms that I will detail as to help anyone else experiencing the issue:
The Car would go in First but under only light acceleration, if you pressed gas to much engine revved but you went nowhere - felt like clutch slipping , It was not
Second Gear would act like First when up shifting but upon down shifting it felt fully engaged- again felt like clutch issue, It was not
Third and up all acted pretty normal and it was boosting kind hard with good acceleration
*Here was the dead giveaway , I went to park in gravel spot next to main driveway and my front tires were just spinning out in the gravel while I was trying to drive up further.
Anyway I finally got it pinned down to transfer case drove back over and picked up a rebuilt one from a Talon in Colorado Springs.
My Goal with #1708 is to make it a fun/rare/high horse power daily driver to do this I need to address/restore some of its features that have somewhat fell by the way side, such as:
Fix small leak on turbo oil return line
New (used) Transfer Case Leaks too (Currently have original transfer case in the driveline shop to be rebuilt)
Cruise Control( hooked up but missing its vacuum lines, I think)
Hook up A/C ( still has most stuff in car but there seams to be no A/c Belt Tension-er, I will of course have the system converted over(Really Hot Summers Here))
I am unsure if my rear wheel steering is working, I have suspicion it is not.. and lines from front to rear are leaking slightly
Relocate Battery to Trunk
Have interior redone with leather (someone put cloth versions of the seats in)
Rear Passenger Window doesn't roll down ( I have fingers crossed it is minor issue)
Update from DSMLink V2 to V3
I would like to install some sort of boost control system ( am leaning towards ECU boost control, hence DSMLink update)
Eventually paint (Looks are third to me as reliability (maintenance) is first and power/fun factor is second
