Hi All!
My Name is Colby. First off this is my first forum and first sports car. I bought #1708 in January of this year in Denver Colorado off of Craig's List. Below is the List of Mods and what ad said:

"1991 Galant VR4 1708/2000
4 cylinder 2.0 turbo
All Wheel Drive
4 Wheel Steering
192,000 miles
5 speed Manual

This rare car is loaded with performance modifications: Big 16 G Turbo, at 20lbs of boost, 660 CC Fuel injectors, HKS SSQ blow off valve, ACT 2600 Clutch, FMIC
2G MAF, 2G Exhaust Manifold, DSM Link Version 2, and 17 Inch Rims

Car needs work, it does not start and will need to be towed. Thank you for your interest, if you have any questions please contact me "
Here are Some pics of the Car:

So I made a road trip from Western Colorado over to take a look at it. I of course already had every intention of buying this car fixing it in a parking lot and driving it back. So we arrived I paid for the car as broken went to auto parts store bought a new larger battery and BAM! Car starts right up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif After letting it warm up me and my best friend boosted around the block a few times and then went to gas station checked oil tires and fueled up. We were kind of trying to hurry because a large winter storm was coming in.
On way back from Denver Car was making very odd pitched whine that really concerned me, my buddy said it was a 91 and alot of road noise might be expected. Anyway after a few hours I was finally coming down off of Continental Divide in the middle the snow storm The car made loud vibrating bang or snap almost as if the drive shaft broke... But the whine went away immediately and car was still running and much quieter, I pulled over and no visible damage. I Later found that this noise was the transfer case internals shattering and I only have front wheel drive. It did have some weird symptoms that I will detail as to help anyone else experiencing the issue:
The Car would go in First but under only light acceleration, if you pressed gas to much engine revved but you went nowhere - felt like clutch slipping , It was not
Second Gear would act like First when up shifting but upon down shifting it felt fully engaged- again felt like clutch issue, It was not
Third and up all acted pretty normal and it was boosting kind hard with good acceleration
*Here was the dead giveaway , I went to park in gravel spot next to main driveway and my front tires were just spinning out in the gravel while I was trying to drive up further.

Anyway I finally got it pinned down to transfer case drove back over and picked up a rebuilt one from a Talon in Colorado Springs.

My Goal with #1708 is to make it a fun/rare/high horse power daily driver to do this I need to address/restore some of its features that have somewhat fell by the way side, such as:
Fix small leak on turbo oil return line
New (used) Transfer Case Leaks too (Currently have original transfer case in the driveline shop to be rebuilt)
Cruise Control( hooked up but missing its vacuum lines, I think)
Hook up A/C ( still has most stuff in car but there seams to be no A/c Belt Tension-er, I will of course have the system converted over(Really Hot Summers Here))
I am unsure if my rear wheel steering is working, I have suspicion it is not.. and lines from front to rear are leaking slightly
Relocate Battery to Trunk
Have interior redone with leather (someone put cloth versions of the seats in)
Rear Passenger Window doesn't roll down ( I have fingers crossed it is minor issue)
Update from DSMLink V2 to V3
I would like to install some sort of boost control system ( am leaning towards ECU boost control, hence DSMLink update)
Eventually paint (Looks are third to me as reliability (maintenance) is first and power/fun factor is second

Side note: I learned the hard way that you do not use cheap oil filters as I took it to lube shop right after purchase and next day blew oil filter seal out along with $30 dollars of synthetic motor oil everywhere!

I am now using Napa Gold , I think ... Any recommendations?

Also I am preparing to order the upgrade for DSMlink V3 and I am trying to figure out the maker of my fuel injectors(is this important)?...Pic is below

Does Anyone know what brand these are?

They look like Delphi injectors. Dunno how to ID the flow rate other than pulling them out and see if there's information etched somewhere on the body. If there's a part number stamped on it, you might be able to cross reference the number and figure out the flow rate.

there PTE's and if there said to be 660cc there actually 680cc. i dont know the serial number on your because i cant see it. unplug one of the injectors and spin it around there is a number on the top of the injector, it will look like this, 9293 1711814 thats a PTE/Delphi 680cc injector. thats what my 680cc say on them that are in 1078. you can actually see the 5264 as the begining on yours. turn it a bit more and get the rest of the number and just type that number into the google search bar and it will bring it up. as for the leather seats, im moving to california soon and i want to get rid of the leather seats i have, for cloth ones. so take some pictures of yours and ill take pictures of mine and if we agree then when i drive out there i will stop by and trade seats with you.

Thanks Guys! I will get in there and rotate the injectors to get the rest of the serial number, When I just looked up 5264 I was getting way to much info back to cross ref the #, hopefully the non-displayed # will give it away...

Below are some pictures of the interior:

None of the seats have any rips or tears but there are some faint stains on passenger seat.

FYI: Also the reason I am looking to swap to DSMLink V3 and engage the ecu boost control is because the boost curve feels horrible I currently have homemade looking manual controller (I did not make it) in there and the boost goes from like 7psi to 27psi and is just rather unsteady...
I have also started noticing the idle is acting funny,it will idle up and down on RPMs when warming up and then once warmed up settles just below 1000rpm ,Is this perhaps a TPS?
Going to hook it up to link now to see if I notice any thing...

They are the same seats as the JDM VR-4, and I believe the GGSX and/or the GGSR. Very very comfortable seats, especially the rear! I wish the leather seats were as comfortable.

They also came in the Eagle 2000 GTX's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

They are by far the most comfortable seats I've ever had in any car.

Sorry been out of town on business,
-Transparetdsm, your seats look like they are in pretty good condition, I would be down to trade if it works out. My cloth seats do have some stains just as a remainder ,... don't want you to get surprised or anything when you see them. When are you planning on moving?

And I would love to take this thing for a drive back over to the front range , so much fun over the passes. But I am currently finishing the repairs on oil and transfer case leaks, so I need to see how it comes together before I take for that long of road trip. Alternator went out last week so for now the joy of changing that out.

Also when I took the transfer case out it only had three bolts holding it in still, I am missing one short and one long ... Does any one know where the best place to find replacement bolts at? I checked Napa, Checker, Reilly's and this fastener store they said the thread had unique pitch and their closest match would be good to thread in as it may damage casing threads...

From the experienced readers, I have do have some oil residue that builds up on intercooler piping and valve cover, you can see the weird sheen on it. Would an oil catch can reduce this occurrence? what are other advantages to oil catch cans is there?

Thanks Again Guys!

stains are ok, i will actually only be taking the fronts, i have evo 8's in the rear, but i do have the rear leathers that are in the picture and i will be bringing them with me.

Send me a PM on the bolt's i will go look today and find the bolts you need, i have them in a bin in my basement.

oil catch can allow you to run both of the vents off the valve cover into one single can, avoiding having oil sent into your intake pipe and intake manifold, like the stock routing is set up, and that stops it from blowing oil into the top of the pistons and through the compressor housing into the inside of the intercooler piping. i do not think this would help your problem.

your oil leak that is giving the valve cover and outside of the intercooler pipe the oil residue is maybe a valve cover gasket. i cant be sure because im not physically there to look at it, but that is your likely culprit.

Is radiator removal best approach for one to replace the alternator?

Seems tight by power steering pump and no way is it slipping out the bottom past exhaust and oil filter housing ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Heard on Talons you can remove wheel well splash guard and remove there but I don't see the splash guard ... so I assume it is different.

unless you need to replace the rad or flush all the fluid, leave the rad in, take out the intercooler piping in the way, pull the power steering pump off the bracket and lay it to the side, get the alt. loose and free, make sure the pulley is facing you, lift the alt upward toward yourself, as it reaches the power steering pump bracket hold it by the pulley and rotate the alt. left and right till is slides up a bit, turn it sideways and lift the whole thing out. its a really easy process, i have done it a lot though. it may help more if you remove the whole power steering pump bracket.

Colby,

A piece of cardboard placed down the back of the radiatorwill prevent most damage to the radiator fins

... and it'll go along way towards cutting down on the knuckle scuffs/scrapes as you try and twist/turn/squeeze the alty out.

Be sure to disconnect the battery first, or you may be procuring a new alty fuse when the hot lead touches something.
