If the plugs aren't wet after several failed attempts, jump the fuel pump to see if it's working. If it's in time, has good spark, fuel and air. It should run, or at least stumble.

Cracks on the tank to core area are mostly due to the material thickness of the tank being too thin, causing "oil canning". .090" is the thinnest I'd recommend. Thicker depending on the shape and size of the tank. Even on .090" pre-heat is not necessary. Bar and plate core with 3/16"-1/4" header...
