  1. What happened to 1062?

Yes I am still around. I have been off the internet for a while but I will try and poke around more. Yes I have had a busy family life and the racecar took the back seat. I will look at my build thread and come up with a good update. After many changes the new braking part is the...
  2. The never ending build of 1062.

I picked up the drive shaft shop stage 5 rear axles, they are more then strong enough. So the next step will be the 3000gt rear diff and DSS shortens the axles and puts on the right ends for this. That's a over the winter project. I will get another update with the pics and an updated mod...
  3. The never ending build of 1062.

Where to start....So the fuel change was a good thing for the car, off E98 and onto RAT K16. ATM we are at 72-74% duty cycle @42psi and log wise the car is happy. It has not lifted the head, even though its spendy I now have some street miles on the car and built up the confidence I need...
  4. The never ending build of 1062.

Broken synchro springs made it a short weekend. We managed 1 full pass, 11.8@130mph not setting records, but this was with only 22psi of boost. I will get the trans fixed and back out asap.
  5. The never ending build of 1062.

I had been running e98 for the last 4 years. And I had a quarter master twin disk for the last 5 years.
  6. The never ending build of 1062.

Long time no post, I am still trying, 2014 was a wash. But things are looking up for 2015.If all goes well we should be up in BIR for PG #1. We have put a few miles on the motor and at WG pressure everything is looking really good. I plan to take it out for a 3rd gear hit at WG pressure...
  7. how many of you have a "budget"build on your GVR4?

1062, hum ya sure.I bought the car in 2001 for 4500 it had 77,000 miles on it, it was my very first car, and it was as stock as stock could get.As for money in, at this point I have no idea. I think I drove it stock for 3 months then it started needing or I put parts into it, I have paid...
  8. Last time out with 431 at island dragway....

I had a few things work out this year. The fuel system upgrades netted 90% duty cycle on my injectors vs 120+, the catch can with drain back into block worked great, and the billet 76mm BW turbo showed great improvements over the Garrett 4202. My main issue was I had not tracked the car in...
  9. Last time out with 431 at island dragway....

That Is a crazy wrist pin, way thicker then what I have now even.
  10. Last time out with 431 at island dragway....

Now that is how you brake a motor, daum.I had been running the best of the best CP wrist pin, when they built my Carrillo rods and CP pistons we did the 22mm and thick wall. well after 8 of them bent I upped my game and found a set with the right dimensions and seem to be holding up good so...
  11. When did you fall in love with the GVR4

So if anyone could guess my Dad was into Big, dirty v-8 things with calibrated leaks on top of them. And he drove #1062 home from work one day and said, "Son it needs some break work and a standard tune up". So there it sat, until we wanted to know what was up with this white 4 door family car...
  12. The never ending build of 1062.

I will try and make it out there next year. For now I can hit up BIR, Rock Falls or Cedar falls for some full passes this year. Stuff is coming together for 2013.
  13. The never ending build of 1062.

IDK if the shoot out in Ohio is in the cards this year. But I hope with any luck I will have the block back by Thursday this week, and the few small parts I am waiting on, and then its a few days of hoopla to get it up and running for the MAP Proving grounds at BIR on the weekend of June 21.~John
  14. The never ending build of 1062.

Getting a slow start on the season, o well. I have 1 tranny complete, and the other one just needs to be re-assembled. The motor is hard blocked, and honed .020" over for the pistons, and the mains are line honed. Now I just need to port the hard block to get water flowing, bring the block...
  15. Opinions on DSS rear axle bar upgrade?

I think the major factors to this are: vehical weight, OMG HP and TQ, and suspension/tires.I know with my hot rod on the BFG comp T/A's at 18psi at the MAP proving grounds at BIR in 2011 on a cold morning produced some spin and a little hop in 1st gear but put enough power down with a stock...
  16. What does this dial actually adjust?

The main difference would be for a R12 system if you put more gooey stuff in it will get colder, thus how freezers work, but with R134a it works out more r134a will equal a hotter air charge, so it is critical to have both systems at the recommended fill levels, using AC filling gauges, and...
  17. Help identifying rods

Manley A beam rods would be my guess
  18. Looking for a fitting size

That will be an inverted flare, like a brake line. Just buy a water pipe and factory line, then cut and bubble flare the tube for the return.
  19. The never ending build of 1062.

All my new tranny parts showed up, and I picked up a used tranny with evo 3 stuff in side, it hurt the intermediate shaft and 4th gear so I have some extra parts and will buy a new intermediate shaft to fix this tranny for a back up this year.I also dropped off my new block, MAP stage 5 head...
  20. Galant Vr-4 Domination

I drive my white car on the street. I have not had a street race in it sense 2004 though, back when it was running mid 11s.
  21. The never ending build of 1062.

I tore the rest of the tranny apart and ordered anothezr: 3/4 synchro a new 1/2 hub and slider, new cut engagement 2nd gear, new 1/2 and 3/4 synchro dog keys and lucky for me I found a almost new 3/4 hub and slider in my parts pile.So for sure my trans will be up to snuff for proving grounds...
  22. The never ending build of 1062.

I will be at the MAP Proving grounds June 21-23, by then I should be able to get a few good full passes in. Rock falls has some test and tune days on April 20, a sport compact day the 21st, and another T and T on the 27th and May 18 and June 15.~John
  23. 1mm O/S valves

what is the current setup? future plans/goals for the car. I know a lot of people my self included that has gone plenty fast and made good power with stock valves.
  24. The never ending build of 1062.

Yes I had the block o ringed before last year, and with the MLS gasket worked great until I turned the boost up a little to highI had been running around 39-40psi on E98 and towards the end of last year I wanted to see a little more. So the night we drove all over to all the good hang outs...
  25. GVR4 owners, CHECK IN!

I own 2 1991 GVR4's#1062 is my race car, and is the first car I ever bought back in late 2000.#597 is a car I picked up over 1 year ago, its been a long time coming but has been a good DD for the last 2000 miles. I have a Mutt level 1 turbo on it (supports 400 bhp) running 17psi, back up...
  26. 1mm O/S valves

I think most high HP builds, 600+ AWHP have 1mm over intake and exhaust valves. Just putting in 1mm over valves with no machine work to the head will hurt flow, and HP/torque. But if the valve seats are cut to fit over sized valves and the port work is matched and your setup will support it I...
  27. The never ending build of 1062.

I ordered up the parts to refresh the tranny, I replaced the 3/4 synchro set a little to late last year. Now I am replacing the evo 3 4th gear, I will inspec the final drive/intermediate shaft for wear. I also have a new double synchro 2nd coming, right now if the car spins it will lock me...
  28. 91 Galant VR4 #597/2000 Project redemption

I have been driving the car for a few weeks, finally. I have worked out a few bugs and still have some minor things here and there to make it a nice car to drive.I have been working on the tune on pump gas and have the boost set to 17psi, feels quick enough. I am getting a set of snow...
  29. Twin-Charging?

Twin charge? Turbo and nitrous, done. If you do it, turbo then supercharger (positive displacement roots style).
  30. Dyno results- #431/1000 - success

Looks like it blows threw the converter in the mid range. Nice numbers and I am sure it will go like crazy at the track. If my 4202 breaks I will be looking into a billet 67.
  31. 91 Galant VR4 #597/2000 Project redemption

wow, this project turned out to be a disaster. I ended up with a Green car with a totally revamped engine bay harness and a fully built 2.0 motor with Wiseco pistons and Crower rods. A factory composite gasket and a Mutt level 1 turbo, about 380AWHP at 30psi, so when I run 15psi and make about...
  32. Keeping Up With Liter Bikes?

OK lets lay this out, I said HIGH WAY ROLL.... The Liter bikes posted had some crazy short times, and would NEVER race on the street. Second my car weighs in at 2350lbs w/o driver and made 947 AWHP at DB Performance in 2011 at 44PSI. I am working on cutting a few more LBs this year and up the...
  33. Insurance for the GVR-4

I say if you modify a vehicle to the extent that some do, its a risk you take driving, parking, and otherwise leaving your pride and joy to the will of the people.I have a car worth 6 digits if you count in some labor time, I have put 3500 miles on the car in the last 2 years on just...
  34. MIG welding Aluminum

TIG weld it.... LOL a spool gun works on 1/8" think and up pretty good.
  35. Dyno chart 33psi boost 7800RPM

That is a lot of power for the boost level, I suppose huge turbo, high compression and a lot of timing will get that.~John
  36. The never ending build of 1062.

I will work on some pics but the race car is done for the year. I have 2 spare blocks and heads I am bringing to MAP along with my custom CP pistons and Custom Carrillo rods and many other parts and I want a motor that will handle 850AWHP for a season by spring time. Also on 10-28-2012 at...
  37. Keeping Up With Liter Bikes?

I will race ANY LITER bike no mater what is done to it in a 75mph-175mph high way run. Cash in hand lets make this legit.
  38. The never ending build of 1062.

Last Friday night the car made its way all over the streets of down town like it was the early 2000's. We hit up the sears lot by the capital, holiday by spring steet, parked at the Rainbow lot, drove around a hole lot and had a great night.Rolled with a twin turbo viper that could have...
  39. The never ending build of 1062.

Here is the run down from the muscle car shootout at BIR from this weekend. The track had tons of grip, to much for my setup. I broke 5 axles in 3 passes, the number of cars and classes plus no open time trials limited me to 3 runs Saturday and 1 elimination run Sunday morning.First pass we...
  40. The never ending build of 1062.

Getting loaded up in the AM. I will drive up after work tomorrow to BIR. Run threw tech Saturday am, then run 1 or 2 test passes 1st threw 3rd gear to confirm the 60' and the tune. Then I will be ready for a few good full passes and try to better my [email protected] from last year.~John
  41. The never ending build of 1062.

Time for the small update. The new 3/4 syncro set showed up and they are installed. The tranny shifts great at 10,000rpm and we are working out the tune with the 26" tall tire and shifting. The RPM drop per gear is a lot more then the last few years, but the traction and MPH per gear is well...
  42. transmission!

I have the factory service manual also, I could take pics and post them up if you want.
  43. #431: Photoshoot

Boost cut with the AEM ems just shuts the injectors off, like a rev limiter. New setup looks good, sorry to hear about the rod. What rods are you looking at for the new motor?
  44. Fastest vr4 coming back to NZ

    That is a monster setup.
  45. The never ending build of 1062.

I did drive the car to work and home, I have the tranny out again... I have all the parts needed on the way to make this thing shift at high RPM for another few runs at the track to get my goal. Also i wanted to hit the dyno 1 more time to see what 48psi does, then nitrous if all is good.~John
  46. The never ending build of 1062.

Well PG did not go to plan, shifting issues left us with 60' testing, which only making 8 full passes on this new setup over 2 years, was not a bad idea to get this part working right. So the new tires are the best thing ever, the car makes no low end torque, so having a little spin threw 1st...
  47. The never ending build of 1062.

Yes trying to get the car ready for proving grounds at BIR this weekend. I will update before I head up there and fill in after this weekend.
  48. The never ending build of 1062.

Just a quick update, more to come this weekend.I have a line on a brand new suit and a parachute setup from an old top alcohol team.I drove the car early last week, we broke in the motor and changed the oil to red line 40wt race oil, and fixed a few minor things. The tranny would not...
  49. The never ending build of 1062.

They were leaking between the layers, so copper spray had no effect. And the HG's held fine till we tried to make more then 840 awhp, so yes they should work great for 600 whp setups.
