1. Notable Galant VR-4 Sales

Just sold 848/1000 asking price $4500 sale price $3850
2. 848/1000 new project build.

Took my non Subaru to a Subaru meet up today.
3. 848/1000 new project build.

Started stripping off the old purple nasty window tint today. Used a steamer. Wasn’t fun. Before and after.
4. FS: Part out 91 GVR4, #597, aftermarket and stock

I only need the 2 parts from my above picture. If anyone else needs the rest of it then have at it.
5. FS: Part out 91 GVR4, #597, aftermarket and stock

Excellent thank you!
6. 138/2000

I suppose you could find some sort of universal side markers and put them on top of the fenders as indicators. Im sure it would be possible to retrofit LEDs or something into the jdm corner markers but it may be more costly than its worth. Nice hood btw
7. 848/1000 new project build.

For whatever reason it wouldn’t let me edit in my after picture of the wrapped safc so here it is.
8. 848/1000 new project build.

Finally got around to moving my safc like I wanted to. First off the silver had to go. BeforeAfter a quick vinyl wrapNext was to move the radio up top and build a block off plate. The safc is magnetic mounted so it can still be pulled out of the dash for easier tuning. The...
9. FS: Part out 91 GVR4, #597, aftermarket and stock

Thanks for checking, I’ll pass on the hood but still interested in these window trim parts I’m missing.
10. FS: Part out 91 GVR4, #597, aftermarket and stock

sounds good, I may need more parts as well. Hows the rear window trim?
11. FS: Part out 91 GVR4, #597, aftermarket and stock

what coilovers are on the car? Is the hood in good shape?
12. 848/1000 new project build.

Haven’t decided where the radio will live for sure. The only reason it’s in the lower position now is to not be blocked by the safc on it’s magnetic mount currently.
13. 848/1000 new project build.

dont mind me driving in the rain and taking a picture. I have really been enjoying driving even if its crap weather.I also have my SAFC mounted to the ash tray with a magnetic phone mount, but I think ill make a bracket and trim piece to stick it down by the new radio. Thoughts?
14. 848/1000 new project build.

Been dailying the car all week, and besides a few hiccups all is good. Biggest issues are an exhaust leak causing some stink, overall noise, and a vibration that keeps showing up that I'm hoping is a tire, but feels like a driveshaft. New tires get here tomorrow so hopefully that solves the...
15. 848/1000 new project build.

I’ve alwasy ran mega squirt or some form of standalone system in my previous cars, and I’ll be going to the same soon in this. I just want to get the car to a semi reliable drivable point for now.
16. 848/1000 new project build.

Gauges installedNext I’ve started tuning the car with the safc. I know it was on e85 with the setup it currently has before I got it, but it runs so poorly. Do all safc tunes kinda suck? I’m at the point where I’d rather just get a ecm link and go back to pump gas.
17. 848/1000 new project build.

Couple random pictures. New gauge pods came in today, so I have one oldschool and one newschool gauge. Will be installed after work today, so I can do some more tuning. Also here is a picture of myself working on this turd, I have a wheel for a head.
18. 848/1000 new project build.

G, you have a PM.
19. 848/1000 new project build.

Only had about 20 min of time today, but I got a few things accomplished. Rear steering lines are blocked off and I should be good for now. Plan is to remove the entire rear steer setup and go to a dsm rack and rear diff. Also confirmed that my dakei miata steering hub does fit the car but is...
20. 848/1000 new project build.

I work over in CB. I’d love to come check out what you have once we thaw out a bit.
21. 848/1000 new project build.

Again 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Was fortunate enough to drive the car for the first time, however as soon as it was out of the garage, it decided to puke power steering fluid allllll over. Was easy to see though since everything here is covered in snow. I said screw it and took it around...
22. Does this timing look correct?

Just wanted to verify this timing was correct, and I found my issue. Was not related to timing.
23. 848/1000 new project build.

Found my vacuum leak I just made a mistake when replacing injectors and the #4 injector o ring was not fully seated into the manifold. adjusted, tightened, and bam it works. glad it was an easy fix. but in the process I rebuilt the entire throttle body as well. It needed it as well so not too...
24. Does this timing look correct?

Cheapest I’ve seen a silver cover for was $108. Color doesn’t matter much to me. I’m going to have to rebuild my throttle body too so, I’m likely going to have to make a bigger parts order.
25. Does this timing look correct?

Thanks for the help guys, going to just order a new cover and check the timing when it’s off.
26. Does this timing look correct?

Here is another quick question. Would the factory lower timing cover be black? All the oem replacements I see are silver. Mine is black and seems to be warped as it rubs bad on the ac tensioner.
27. Does this timing look correct?

Irritating thing is that I had the timing cover off before this and wasn’t smart enough to check it before I reassembled the whole thing.
28. Does this timing look correct?

I tried to get the best pictures I could. But does this look correct or is it off just slightly. The car runs a hair lumpy at idle but I feel like it’s more of a vacuum leak than anything else. I’ve gone through the fuel system and that is fine. The ignition is also working well. So it’s either...
29. Got another one

Good luck, its always nice to see more of them get saved. With how old and how abused most of these cars are, its always a crapshoot on what mods are done and if they were done correctly and with what is and isn't usable.
30. 848/1000 new project build.

Had about an hour this morning to work on the car. Good news is that the balance shaft seal was definitely the issue. A non OEM seal must have been used as it was black instead of brown and literally fell out when I removed the balance shaft sprocket. So now that the oil leak is fixed tomorrow...
31. Status of #1655

Thats cool man, I recently purchased another GVR4 after owning one around 8 years ago and having fond memories. Interestingly enough I owned it in Nebraska, sold it to someone in South Dakota, then found out it was last posted about a year ago in Arizona haha. Its always fun to see where your...
32. 848/1000 new project build.

removed all the accessory belts and timing covers yesterday to try and find the source of my oil leak. Turns out I was right. The balance shaft seal is spraying like a fountain. Good news is that appears to be the only leak. Everything is super dirty however. Ill be cleaning and repainting...
33. 848/1000 new project build.

took the injectors to a local a few days ago to see if there was any way they could be saved. After an hour of messing with one, we decided it was best to just start over. New FIC 850ccs arrived! plugged them in and the car fires right up and runs great. I have a large oil leak coming from...
34. 848/1000 new project build.

Worked on the car today with great success. Verified spark Verified compression. This was huge as all cyls are in awesome shape. Verified all injectors are firing but 2 and 3 are completely clogged. This is awesome news since I know exactly what has to be done to make the car run. I’m going to...
35. PROJECT OF GALANT VR-4 1991

Quoting benjamin:
now i want to show you amazing photo.....

I’m pretty sure most of these photos are amazing
36. 848/1000 new project build.

went to go unclog the exhaust and and see if i could make the car run better today, but before i did anything, I figured a compression test is in order. I got arround 130 for 1,2, and 4 but cyl 3 only shows about 80psi for compression so my thought is possibly headgasket or who knows. I also...
37. 848/1000 new project build.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll look into that today.
38. 848/1000 new project build.

full day in the garage today but productive.-drained fuel tank -replaced supply fuel line from tank to fuel rail -installed new inline fuel filter -replaced fuel line from fuel rail to FPR -remounted FPR -made a new mount for new fuel filter -installed alternator belt -unfroze front caliper...
39. PROJECT OF GALANT VR-4 1991

I love how thorough this is
40. 848/1000 new project build.

Well, waiting on parts today but had a short time to work on the car. Valve cover and COPs came off for cleaning and new gasket as it was clearly leaking. Here are some in progress photos. you can see in my photos above how dirty and gross the parts were.here it is with the COP setup taken...
41. 848/1000 new project build.

The car actually has full detailed service records to about 120k miles, showing records of both. It has 170k on it now, but looks like the timing belt has been replaced since then after I took off the cover. Was looking underneath and has rust, but I’ll see how bad it is and if any of it is fixable.
42. 848/1000 new project build.

Years ago I owned a 91 rust bucket and even after 20 or so other cars, I’ve always missed the vr4. When I saw the opportunity to acquire another one I jumped on it, maybe too anxiously, maybe not. Time will tell. I plan on documenting the process of turning what I hope is not a can of worms into...
