Hi folks I just purchased a 2001 GLS auto estate. It has a couple of issues but worst problem is the abs light is on. Therefore it won’t pass an mot. I tried plugging in my obd reader. (Nothing special) it powered up but no connection. Tried another one and same issue. Probably why the dude sold it. I’m not a mechanic but I’m not completely useless I just don’t know where to start on this one. Do I need a manufacturer specific reader. Can anybody point me in the right direction. Thanks.

2001 is an ea series car. They are OBD2 and completely different from the e30 series cars
That said on the e30 series cars there is a trace in the ecu that runs near the power supply caps and this can be cut by leaky caps which then kills the comms
