Well at this stage its cleaning and prepping parts...i have about 3 Gals of Degreaser (Was hopeing to get some of this stuff dipped but one of the local machine shops said their dip is broken or watever). Also hit another speed bump as i was prepping the engine. Turns out the overhaul kit i bought locally doesn't exactly fit so i gotta save more money to get an OEM kit with a Mitsu Metal head gasket and just call it a day. Will be considering sending the block and head to be decked and resurfaced.

And onto the Pictures
the trans after first round of degreaser

Empty engine bay before cleaning began

Block being cleaned (Yeah we don't own an engine stand or hoist yet.

Thanks for keeping us updated on your progress, it seems to be coming along nicely. Good call on spending a little more to get the OEM parts you need. You won't regret it.

We dropped the sub frame to finish remove the 4WS stuff remaining and to put on the new LSD. We found out one of the brake lines had been broken, so that needs to be repaired before the car can make it back to the road.

Looks good, but I would ditch that power steering cooler. It is not really needed and the lines can be looped easily. Or at least put it behind the intercooler if you are determined to keep it.

Haven't been doing much lately,

Got my new pistons pressed on and I started reassembling the motor, put in the pistons and rods, crank, mains, oil pump, balance shafts and torqued everything down to spec. tomorrow should be back doing more work

[quote="scientist"]Ok...small update, the bottom end is almost finished, just have to deal with the rear main seal, then i can throw on the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate.

Torqued down the rods with the new ARP studs and bolts and rechecked everything, installed the tensioners, water pump, freeze plugs, oil pickup, bottom pan, new front seal, all new gaskets, ARP head studs and new head gasket. With the head, installed valve stem seals, rocker cover gasket, new spark plug seals, oil cap gasket, cam seals etc. Tommorows another day, hopefully i find the valve spring compressor or will have to borrow one so i can finish with the head. Waiting to drop it on and torque it down.

Are you reusing the pulley that is all dented or is a new piece waiting to be installed?

WHy did you put both balance shafts in a lathe??? You do understand that you only need to grind down the rear balance shaft right? Once the balance shaft belt is gone, that front balance shaft will never turn so cutting the weights off was a waste of time. Either install the bearing to block off oil hole or just put the front balance shaft back in to block oil hole. The rear balance shaft is your main focus and your not done grinding down that balance shaft either.

Ok...here's the scenario....whether i did both or just one the cost was the same. I didn't do it myself, my friend's dad did it at their machine shop, he did the grinding and balancing. I placed back in both balance shafts. I went that route because it had a much quicker turn around, cost me significantly less than ordering+paying international frieght+brokerage+customs duties+vat+excise tax on something so small. The oil pump in the pictures was the old pump i removed from the engine and replaced with a brand new front case.

Thanks for the heads up though. As of tonight, the bottom end has already been assembled and the head, intake mani, valve cover, timing belt etc have already been placed on and torqued

I also did my own balance shaft... actually a machine shop did them but anyways, the front shaft is useless. You really didnt ruin anything. Just wasted time taking it out, reinstalling, etc. Now that the balance shaft belt is gone, the front shaft will not turn weights or no weights. Just something to reference in case someone reads this and gets confused.
