This is probably a completely stupid question, but I am wanting to flash an evo8 ecu when I install it in my vr4. I've read about tactrix 1.3 and 2.0 and it seems there are even more specific versions than that (1.3f etc.). I am just wanting to know what I need to tune an evo 8 Ecu. What are the differences of the above mentioned cables and what do I need? Will this one work?

PM 381gvr4 or broxma, they both have done it, and are great sources of info on the subject.

That cable won't work. They used to make a universal cable which could do both Evo's and Subaru's and maybe the version 2 cable does, but the version 1.3 cable I have only does Evo's.

That being said, new, you can only get the 2.0 cables now. They are considerably more expensive than the older 1.3 cable. You can find them used occasionally on EvoM and other random places.

Now, that is not to say that I can't ohm out the cable I have and you can make one. Working with the USB cable end might pose some difficulty but should be possible. You'll have to get a female OBDII end however and an extra Female OBDI connector for the grounding plug. I am sure these can be bought with some relative ease somewhere.
