Quoting JNR:

I remember seeing a way to 'spin' these engines manually in a similar fashion, but forgot the procedure and would like to find it so I can prime it before starting it again (it's been sitting a long time!).

As long as the oil pump is packed with grease properly, it doesn't take many cranks with the starter with the MPI fuse removed to get the oil pressure light to turn off. At that point, yer good to go. And engine assembly lube will provide added protection if it's a new motor. For a car that has been sitting, there should still be oil in there. But for good measure just do what I do.

As far as oil changes go, I don't even fill the oil filter. I screw that bish on empty. Otherwise it makes a mess since it screws on sideways.

What kind of grease to pack the pump, like assembly lube? It's been sitting a long time so don't want to take any chances...

Oh yeah, on the side...I still put some in, just not as much as a conventional up-down arrangement.

I typically use a very lightweight wheel bearing type grease. Not sure what viscosity or grade it is. Not thick though.
