Tailights work, hvac lights up or dim via the knob.

A month or 2 ago, hitting the change color button would start not working... I'd have to hit it a few times to get the gauges to light back up.

Now thier not lighting up at all.

Is there something common that goes with the switch?

I haven't heard of the color change switch going bad. Do you have any aftermarket gauges? If so, they might be causing your problems. Its super easy to take the gauge cluster out; 2 screws on the top of the bezel, push the color change button to tip the top of the bezel towards you, few more screws holding the gauges in, then tip the top towards you then wiggle it out. You won't even need to drop the steering column. You can find more detailed instructions on here.

I would take out the gauges and make sure the bulbs are getting power first, then go from there.
