^Exactly.

It's less than $6.00 a quart, is a semi synthetic, and has a healthy amount of zinc and phosphorus.

I've talked with a local cam grinder who can't say enough good about it.

I made the switch from Mobil 1 0w-40 to Rotella T6 5w-40 for summer. Gas mileage is pretty comparable and over on bitog the new and used oil analysis are very impressive.

UOA Rotella T6

VOA of Rotella T6 for Reference

Reason I made the switch at least for summer is the fact that Mobil 1 0w-40 tends to sheer to a 30w. While it isn't a big deal in the winter my oil pressures tend to get a little lower then I'd like when I'm beating on the car during the summer. Rotella T6 seems to keep its viscosity better. It also has a couple hundred ppm zddp which is nice.

Mobil 1 10w30 in my Talon for the 50k hard miles I put on it, head is still SPOTLESS inside. I like the fact that it's $23.50 a gallon at walmart too.

VR-4 gets Rotella 15w40 which I also am a huge fan of.

Castrol TMS 10w60 (Not in the garrant tho)

I always ran Mobil 1 or Castrol 5/10-30 in the Galant, depending on the season. Never an issue, and lifters were pretty much silent with the 10-30. (original lifters)

Brad Penn or any non detergent motor oil with a high zinc content will have rave reviews from v8 or other domestic shops. Back in the day I heard about Rotella T 10w40, but I use that in my diesel. I have used Mobil 1 but when I daily drove my Talon with a built motor I used Castrol full synthetic 20w50. When I build a motor I like to use a new filter and 30w oil and let it warm up, then change out the oil and filter to 30w non detergent with Comp cams break in stuff, that has a lot of zinc in it. If you use oil with detergent and the zinc additive they are fighting for the same space at a molecular level and its less effective. And for dyno tuning or racing down the strip or on the street with my race motor I use Redline race oil either 30w or 40w. And if I were to street drive a motor for more then 5000miles between tear downs then Castrol 10w30 or 20w50 full synthetic will be my choice.

Ive been using 5w30 from M1. Is 5w30 to light? I notice everyone is using like 10w30. I've been using just because thats what other people have told to use is 5w30. I never really had the chance to sit down and read the differences between them. So what should I use when I get my new motor in and in the t case and diffs?

Valvoline VR-1 in everything I own....Mini Van, both work trucks, VR4, Porsche, really old Jeep, Lawn mower, Gator......The list goes on. I do not trust Mobil one at all. I used to and it cost me three engines in three different cars...The rings were the first to go in 2 of them and the lifters and cams in the third. Upon tear down the bearings were toast in all of them. It took some investigating to be convinced, but I wouldn't run it in my go-kart.

.....and VR1 is the closest in name to the VR4!!! Whats not to love?

i think I last remember billings saying it. In order of importance...
- oil is better than no oil,
- clean oil is better than dirty oil,
- last, type of oil

I've never had reason to really, truly think one quality oil was SO much different than the other for my driving needs, I mind the first two points and have been fine. You guys sound super smart though, eh.
