turn off space truncation or use formatting/characters?

I notice these things when trying to format posts to get them more readable ---
- tabs (pasted in) and extraneous spacing get truncated when posts are posted
- Some ASCII characters won't fly - you get some goofy character responses from them

Any recommendations on how a user could format posts for readability? Tabs would do the trick if there's a way to force them.

That's a function of HTML. If you viewed the source of your post you'd see the formatting is still there. We may be able replace the characters on the fly.

Is there a provision to use perhaps? It didn't seem to like it when I tried.
